Most of football takes a quick breather this week before we fly head first into another raft of international action. It’s the World Cup qualifiers taking centre stage from Friday onwards but, this is football and we know the sun never truly sets on the beautiful game.
NEW TO PADDY POWER?
This brings us nicely onto Wednesday’s offerings where we have a couple of juicy Women’s Champions League matches as well as Spain heading to Italy for their Nations League semi-final at San Siro. I think I’ve found a tasty treble so let’s take a look at the selections.

5.45pm: Servette Women v Juventus Women – Juve Clean Sheet
TV: DAZN and DAZN YouTube
Italy’s Juventus take on Servette from Switzerland in their Women’s Champions League Group A opener. Juve are 2nd in Serie A while Servette are 3rd in the Nationalliga A and have made it this far courtesy of the qualifying rounds.
I think there’s super value in backing Juventus to keep a clean sheet in what should be a straightforward win. The reason the price is so good is Servette’s domestic scoring record. However, Juve have conceded just one goal this season on their way to five wins out of five in Serie A.
Their opponents have scored 13 in five games, but the standard they’re facing week in week out is so inferior to Juventus it’s unreal. With Juventus the big favourites, there’s great value in backing them to keep a clean sheet.
7.45pm: Italy v Spain – The Draw
TV: Sky Sports Football
Off to the Nations League where Spain head to Italy as underdogs for their semi-final at San Siro. However, I don’t think it’s going to be a straightforward win for the European champions here. They’ve won just two of their last seven games, drawing the other five within the 90.
Spain have won three of their last nine, losing one and drawing five themselves. Two of those wins came in their last two outings against Georgia and Kosovo. They’re a work in progress and will be looking to keep it tight here.
That’s always Italy’s mantra – safety first – and it worked a treat this summer as they ended level after 90 in three of their final four matches, progressing courtesy of extra time or penalties, including against Spain in the semis. Everything is pointing towards another Draw here.

8pm: Chelsea Women v Wolfsburg Women – Chelsea to Win
TV: DAZN and DAZN YouTube
Chelsea are playing catch up in the Women’s Super League after their opening day defeat but they’re making a good fist of it and are 3rd after four games, winning their three since that surprising loss to table-topping Arsenal. Their opponents on Wednesday, Wolfsburg, are going great guns and sit 2nd in the Women’s Bundesliga after four games.
Chelsea have kicked into gear now though and have battered everyone they’ve faced since The Gunners, scoring six once, four twice and three in their other game in all competitions. Last season’s beaten Champions League finalists should have enough to get the job done against Wolfsburg so we’re on the Chelsea Win to round us off.
