Liverpool v Manchester City is not the only epic tussle this weekend as Phil Thompson goes up against Brian McDonnell in the ultimate meeting of minds. Pick your fighter as Paddy ambassador and Liverpool great Thommo goes to war with our football trader Brain to see who’s got the most prudent punting powers in the game.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

And it would only be right to set the lads loose on the big one as Man City head to Anfield to face Liverpool at 4.30pm on Sunday. So, with PPTV acting as the referee in this heavyweight bout, let’s get it on.

4.30pm: Liverpool v Manchester City

TV: Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League

THOMMO: This is a fascinating game. The Manchester City performance against Chelsea was the best all-round performance that I’ve seen from any side this season. City do have the best defence, they’ve only conceded one goal. Listen to this, they have faced just six shots on target in the Premier League this season and three of them were in the opening game of the season against Spurs which is quite astonishing. That’s 10 fewer than any other side.

Liverpool, unbeaten in nine in all competitions, they’re the only remaining unbeaten side. They’ve had 141 goal attempts which is phenomenal and they’re top scorers with 15. For me guys, and I’ll shock you here Brian – I’m going for a Draw. I can see Both Teams Scoring. I’ve gone for 1-1 in this. Both defences are good, I know Liverpool conceded three against Brentford, but I can see Mo Salah Scoring Anytime.

BRIAN: I was actually going to say Phil that it’s the first time that I’ve agreed with you on a Liverpool prediction because I’m going for Liverpool to Win this one! We talked about that Chelsea performance from Man City last week, it was near perfect.

They dominated the game from start to finish, they win 1-0 with a deflected strike. Then they go to Paris St-Germain, they concede early, they dominate the game but they can’t put the ball in the net and PSG kill them off on the counter attack.

It’s all well and good Man City coming up against the lesser teams who give them more space and they can rack up four or five goals, but I think we’ve seen too often now with Man City, in the big games especially, that they’re missing a clinical striker and they struggle to score in the big games.

Liverpool have Mo Salah who’s matching some of the best form he’s ever shown with seven goals in his last six games, two during the week against Porto. I just can’t see Liverpool not scoring and I can see City maybe not scoring. I’d be looking at Salah to Score Anytime and with Liverpool as underdogs, I’d be happy to back them.
