Wednesday night sees plenty of Championship and Champions League action with everyone from Barcelona to Barnsley going at it. That’s where I’m focusing my attention for a midweek acca, though those pleasingly alliterative but fantastically-contrasting clubs don’t feature.
NEW TO PADDY POWER?
Instead it’s off to the top and the bottom of the English second tier as well as rating the chances of the Premier League sides in action on the continent on Wednesday. There’s some tasty value around so let’s take a look at my selections.

7.45pm: Derby v Reading – Reading to Win
TV: Sky Sports Red Button
Reading have taken a while to get going this season but they’ve kicked into gear and head to crisis club Derby on the back on three straight wins. Wayne Rooney’s Rams have won just twice all season and sit rock-bottom, courtesy of a points deduction after going into administration.
Derby’s players have shown remarkable resolve in the face of incredibly tough circumstances but I think they’re well up against it in this contest. With The Royals on a high it’s impossible to see anything other than an away win.
Paddy must have a pathological hatred of Reading as he has Derby as the big favourites here. At the price, Reading to Win is too good to miss. Let’s hope they’re not in our bad books come 10pm on Wednesday.
7.45pm: Peterborough v Bournemouth – Bournemouth to Win
TV: Sky Sports Red Button
Top heads to 21st in this one with Bournemouth riding the crest of a wave courtesy of four straight wins. The Posh have lost four of their last five and are in a tricky patch with Darren Ferguson’s changing room reported to have football boots flying around all over the place. Like father, like son.
Bournemouth are yet to lose this season, winning six and drawing three while Peterborough have won two, drawn one and lost six. The Cherries are on the charge and Scott Parker’s side should comfortably have enough to secure an easy Bournemouth Win.
8pm: Juventus v Chelsea – Chelsea to Win
TV: BT Sport 2
How the mighty have fallen. Juventus got bored of winning Serie A every season and decided to pep things up by helping to form the European Super League. That flopped and so has their form. They’ve only won twice in the league so far this season and they’re sat 10th in the Italian top flight, 10 points behind leaders Napoli.
Chelsea are going great guns in the Premier League but suffered a meek loss to defending Champions Manchester City at the weekend. That’s the exception rather than the rule and you can’t help but feel they’re going to come out all guns blazing in search of redemption here.
The Blues have only conceded twice in the Premier League this season while The Old Lady has shipped 10. They’re missing key men Paulo Dybala and Alvaro Morata through injury and you feel Juventus’ price is built on home advantage and reputation rather than form. We’re getting great odds on Chelsea to Win.

8pm: Man Utd v Villarreal – Villarreal Win/Draw
TV: BT Sport 3 and BT Sport Ultimate
If history is anything to go by, Manchester United are way too short here. They’ve faced Villarreal five times in total, with every game ending in a draw, most noticeably in last season’s Europa League final which the Spanish side won after an epic penalty shootout.
United are in shaky form and The Yellow Submarine have shown time and time again they’re very difficult to sink. Fresh off a 0-0 draw with Real Madrid, and having also drawn with Chelsea in the Super Cup earlier this season, I think Villarreal are going to leave Old Trafford with some kind of result.
Throw in United’s dreadful Champions League record under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and you’ve got a recipe for disaster if you’re of The Red Devils’ persuasion. Villarreal have drawn an incredible seven of their eight games this season and, as United might be lurching towards crisis, there’s great value on the Villarreal Win/Draw Double Chance. Go for The Draw if you’re feeling brave, but I’m happy with the odds on the selection and we’re covered for two of three eventualities.
