Liverpool to Win

Liverpool’s group looks difficult on paper and is an exciting group for traditionalists, but they should have little problems in qualifying for the knock-out stages.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are by far the best team in Group B and should at least qualify from the group in second place even if they are eclipsed by La Liga champions Atletico Madrid.

They take on AC Milan on Wednesday night in a match that will evoke memories of Athens and Istanbul, and Anfield should be rocking for what will be a great European night, especially considering it is the first time that Liverpool and AC Milan have met outside of a Champions League final.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

Milan have made an excellent start to their Serie A campaign, winning three games out of three to go level on points with Roma at the top of the table, but they face a stern challenge at Anfield.

Liverpool have made an ominous start to their Premier League season and should overwhelm the Milan challenge in front of a boisterous home support on Wednesday night.

Their unconvincing performance against Chelsea notwithstanding, Liverpool have easily swept past Norwich, Burnley, and Leeds, and have rarely looked like conceding a goal.

They should have simply too much experience for a youthful Milan side and should make the perfect start to their Champions League campaign.

Both Teams to Score? No

Liverpool have looked almost impregnable with Virgil Van Dijk and Joel Matip marshalling their back four in the Premier League and it is difficult to see AC Milan making much headway at Anfield.

Van Dijk’s return has facilitated Fabinho’s return to his preferred position of holding midfielder, offering even more protection to Liverpool’s goal.

AC Milan may have scored seven goals in their opening three Serie games this season, but it is difficult to see them breaching Alisson’s goal on Wednesday.

They struggled against English opposition last season, scoring only once against a fragile Manchester United defence over two legs.

They will struggle to breakdown a far more resolute Liverpool rear guard at Anfield.

Diogo Jota to Score Anytime

Jota has now failed to score in consecutive Premier League games after scoring in both of Liverpool’s opening two league games against Norwich and Burnley.

However, he scored a morale-boosting goal for Portugal against Azerbaijan over the international break and was a threat throughout against Leeds on Sunday.

He also came alive for Liverpool in the Champions League group stages last season, scoring four goals, including three against Italian opposition.

He is good value to find the back of the net against Milan on Wednesday and it wouldn’t be surprising if he continued his goalscoring form against Italian opposition in the group stages of the Champions League.

Mo Salah to Have Two or More Shots on Target

Mohamed Salah is one of the best goalscorers in the world at the moment, but he does take on an enormous number of shots.

The Egyptian forward has attempted 16 shots in four Premier League appearances this season, hitting the target on six occasions and finding the back of the net three times.

Last season, he attempted 126 shots on goal in 34 Premier League start, finding the target 52 times – a rate of almost two per game.

He attempted 22 shots in nine Champions League outings last season and will flourish against an AC Milan side that has conceded an average of 10 shots per game in Serie A this season.

AC Milan to Have Three or More Shots on Target

AC Milan may be facing a resolute Liverpool defence, but they will expect to test Alisson on several occasions.

The Rossoneri have attempted an eye-catching 48 shots in their three league games to date, finding the target 12 times at an average of four per game.

While their shot accuracy certainly could do with a little improvement, they clearly aren’t afraid to have a go.

Liverpool, meanwhile, have faced a minimum of three shots on target in every league game this season, even though they have utterly dominated games against Burnley, Norwich, and Leeds and played against a 10-man Chelsea side for a full half.

Milan may fail to score at Anfield, but it won’t be for lack of trying.
