World Cup qualifiers will always possess more bite than Euros qualifiers, simply because Qatar is going to be an experience one way or the other, and England falling short at a World Cup is even better than the European equivalent.
* Checks to see Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are all in with live chances of qualifying – ah, f*** it.
Away from the home nations, there’s a lot of bigger names that can really cement their pathway to Doha and that alone is worth a look. To hopefully make you as rich as a World Cup-bidding nation, I’m here to tell you which games to include in your Both Teams To Score acca for Tuesday’s fixtures.
I hate how functional Austria are. Because you look at their squad and think there’s absolutely no earthly reason why Stephen Kenny couldn’t mastermind a win against them, but ultimately will fall short.
But, this game will be decisive in this group – if not for the result deciding the outcome, at least for momentum. Israel travel to Denmark for their toughest game and a win here for either side should see them leapfrog them in the table.
Tuesday 19:45 – Austria v Scotland Sky Sports Main Event
That urgency to win the game usually ends up in a tasty tie with goals early. Both have capable marksmen, especially as Che Adams appears to have developed a taste for tattiescones overnight.
You can’t stop Denmark scoring. Hilariously, Finland are the only side since England in the Nations League last year to stop the Danes from finding the net – and Israel, for all that they’re progressing as a footballing nation – are not cut out defensively to deal with that threat. Particularly away from home.
Don’t be fooled by the Danes’ two goals against Scotland though. They came in quick succession, allowing them to soak up pressure for the remainder.

Just as it seemed like Eran Zahavi’s career was over when he moved to China, his goalscoring touch never left him, and now he’s banging in a goal every second week in the Dutch top tier. Combine that with the emergence of Liel Abada at Celtic – who will be moving on shortly for a lot of money – and they’re quite dynamic in wide areas.
The French haven’t kept a clean sheet in any of their last four, and while the extension of Didier Deschamps wasn’t anything other than logical, there appears to be a systemic problem from within the camp. Not like them to overreact and bring the whole thing down is it?
Tuesday 19:45 – France v Finland Sky Sports Red Button
There’s enough star power in the final third that they’re a guarantee to score against any side they play anywhere in the world, but their temperament came into question against Bosnia. It really doesn’t matter how toothless the opposition, they seem intent on handing chances to everyone.
Group G is absolutely the best qualifying group for the World Cup in the UEFA segment, and the shootout between the Dutch and Turkish is the headline act.
Tuesday 19:45 – Netherlands v Turkey Sky Sports Red Button
I quickly realised that when these two go conservative, they play very poorly – it’s simply not in their DNA. This is the game of the weekend, and expect Hakan Çalhanoğlu to pick up where he left off.
