Die Meister! Die Besten! Les grandes équipes! The champions! That’s right, the Champions League is almost upon us and a nine-month footballing feast to find the best team in Europe begins here with the group-stage draw.

The dream for all 32 teams is to reach next May’s final in St Petersburg but it’s a long and winding road to Russia with the six-match group stage packing the fixture list.

Chelsea are the reigning champions having beaten Manchester City in last season’s all-English final. The Blues are one of four Premier League teams in this year’s group stage but all eyes will be on Paris Saint-Germain after their blockbuster summer transfer window.

You’ll find all the information you need to know about the Champions League group-stage draw below including the UK & Ireland start time.

Champions League Draw Date and Start Time

The Champions League group-stage draw begins at 5pm on Thursday August 26. As you know with UEFA ceremonies, there’s likely to be plenty of filler before the balls are drawn from the pot…

The ceremony is being held in Istanbul, Turkey. There’ll be a spot of Premier League nostalgia with Andrey Arshavin and Michael Essien assisting with the draw.

You can watch it all unfold on BT Sport 2 in the UK, Virgin Media Sport in Ireland or on UEFA’s website.

Champions League Teams and Pots

A total of 32 teams will be split over eight groups. They’ll be split into four pots to determine the groups. Pot 1 features the Champions League holders (Chelsea), Europa League victors (Villarreal) and the winners of the six-highest rated leagues. The remaining sides will be allocated to Pot 2, 3 and 4 based on coefficient rankings.

Pot 1: Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Inter Milan, Lille, Manchester City, Sporting Lisbon, Villarreal
Pot 2: Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund, Juventus, Liverpool, Manchester United, PSG, Real Madrid, Sevilla
Pot 3: Ajax, Atalanta, Benfica, Porto, RB Leipzig, Salzburg, Shakhtar Donetsk, Zenit St Petersburg
