The main man Phil Thompson returns once again to help you pick Paddy’s pocket. This time it’s Sunday’s big Premier League games coming under his steely gaze with the help of Paddy football trader Brian McDonnell and the good folk at PPTV.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

First up at 2pm it’s Manchester United facing Southampton at St Mary’s in what looks, on paper at least, a one-sided affair. Chelsea then travel to Arsenal at 4.30pm for a mouth-watering London derby. But who’s getting the lads’ backing this Sunday?

2pm: Southampton v Manchester United

THOMMO: What a performance last week. Yes, maybe five flattered them against Leeds but it was a tremendous performance with Bruno Fernandes’ hat-trick and we had Paul Pogba with four assists which was quite astonishing. It has been a great start for Manchester United.

I was talking to Matt Le Tissier and he’s frightened to death about this one! He’ll be watching from behind the couch. You’ve got to fancy Manchester United and fancy them very, very strongly.

Sunday 2pm: Southampton v Manchester United
Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League

Southampton had a decent start against Everton but they were just not able to do it. They conceded 68 last season so you do worry for them. I’m being kind to Southampton, I’m going 3-0 to Manchester United!

Bruno Fernandes to Score Anytime is my goal-scoring tip. You’ve got to fancy him with penalty kicks and free kicks. I just think most of the time you’d have to put him in. He’s a No.10, he’s a No.6, he’s a No.8 but hopefully he doesn’t get that many!

BRIAN: I’m going to go with Manchester United to Win to Nil. Bruno, Pogba and Mason Greenwood were all unplayable last weekend. Pogba’s not going to get four assists every week and Bruno’s not going to score a hat-trick every week though.

I thought Greenwood’s finish was the pick of the bunch. He’s up there with the pick of the finishers in the league at the moment, I imagine he’s going to start again this weekend. I can’t see why Raphael Varane doesn’t start ahead of Victor Lindelof as well.

I think there will be a focus on United’s defence this week and they will be looking to keep a clean sheet. There aren’t many teams that you’d rather play at the moment than Southampton if you’re looking for a clean sheet, I think. I’m going with United to Win to Nil.

If you’re looking for a goal scorer, I’m going to go against Phil on this one. I think there might be a bit of recency bias in Bruno’s price, he’s the shortest to score first so I’m going to go with Greenwood to Score First just at that bigger price.

4.30pm: Arsenal v Chelsea

THOMMO: I am worried about this Arsenal side. I was also with Charlie Nicholas and Charlie was absolutely scathing of this Arsenal side. Absolutely scathing. What is happening? We don’t know if Alexandre Lacazette or Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang are going to play. Are they ill? There’s rumours that either of them could be moving.

Martin Odegaard looks as though he’s coming in, will it be done in time? They need a boost this Arsenal side. Everything is doom and gloom about them and they’re playing Chelsea in a local derby.

Will Romelu Lukaku play? I think he will and I do fancy him to score. I think this is a comfortable Chelsea Win and another that I’m going to nil, Chelsea to win 2-0 and Romelu Lukaku to Score Anytime.

BRIAN: As an Arsenal fan it’s lucky that there’s a big hurling game on at the time so I’ve an excuse not to watch this one! Where do you start with Arsenal at the moment? Last week against Brentford they were horrendous. No spirit, no leadership, no desire.

As Phil said, the early talk is that Aubameyang and Lacazette are both going to be out. That’s suspicious to me. I think we would have heard if they were isolating or something so it’s really strange why both are not involved.

Sunday 4.30pm: Arsenal v Chelsea
Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League

It’s a must-win game for Arsenal already, especially having to play Manchester City next week. They have beaten Chelsea in their three last competitive fixtures but there is just no way I can see them getting a result on Sunday. Chelsea are better than Arsenal in every single department.

Lukaku, if he doesn’t start he’ll come on and he’ll torment that Arsenal defence. I think Chelsea could win this comfortably. I’m going to go for Chelsea (-1) on the handicap.

Having said all that I think there is value in an Arsenal selection and that’s Nicolas Pepe to Score Anytime. If Arsenal are to score they’re going to be looking to him and I think there’s a bit of value in that selection.
