As we head into the new Premier League season, spare a thought for Paddy’s top traders who’ve had to cobble together a Top Goalscorer market together without all the pieces being in place. Who will Harry Kane actually play his football for? Are Chelsea really going to spend nearly £100m on a striker they’ve sold once before?

It was a thrilling battle for the Golden Boot last season as Kane edged out Liverpool rival Mohamed Salah by one goal to claim the gong for the third time in his career.
With the 2021/22 campaign roaring into sight, we’ve rounded up the leading contenders to finish as the Top Goalscorer and you’ll find Paddy Power’s latest odds below.
Tottenham wantaway and summer holiday lover Harry Kane faces a disrupted start to the season as transfer speculation over a move to Manchester City reaches fever pitch. Despite the ongoing questions over his future, last season’s Golden Boot winner is the favourite with Paddy to finish top of the pile once again. He’ll probably be unstoppable if he links up with Pep and co.
Mohamed Salah has two Golden Boots to his name and still managed an impressive 22 Premier League goals last season despite Liverpool’s relative struggles. The Egyptian’s lowest return since moving to Anfield in 2017 was his 19-goal haul in the 2019/20 campaign but he could miss up to a month of this season due to the Africa Cup of Nations.
Timo Werner may have been offside more times than I had hot dinners last term but the Chelsea forward was almost always in the right places at the right times and, with a year under his belt, could let fly in his sophomore season. The expected arrival of Romelu Lukaku from Inter Milan could limit his minutes through the middle, however.
Barring injury, Liverpool forward Diogo Jota is likely to be a regular fixture in Jurgen Klopp’s team due to Roberto Firmino’s struggles in front of goal in addition to Salah and Sadio Mane heading off to AFCON midway through the season. A return of 13 goals in 30 appearances in a season disrupted by fitness problems suggests there’s plenty more to come.
Pep Guardiola heads into the season without a marquee number nine to lead the line – where will they find the money? – which means Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling will shoulder the burden until Kane – or another big name – inevitably arrives at the Etihad Stadium with minutes to spare before the summer transfer window slams shut.
It’s fair to say Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had a bit of a nightmare in 2020/21 but he still managed to hit 10 goals in 29 appearances. Arsenal will probably fill the role of banter club once again but even a slight return to Aubameyang’s best form should help the Gunners back into European competition, although he’ll be on international duty with Gabon from early January.
Sadio Mane‘s another top name with a bit of a point to prove after a disappointing return of 11 Premier League goals in the previous campaign but he’ll also be off to Africa at the start of next year. A better season for Liverpool should help the 2018/19 Golden Boot winner get back to his best.
Dominic Calvert-Lewin averaged a goal every other game in a breakout season but Everton have since said arrivederci to Carlo Ancelotti and hola to Rafa Benitez. Will the managerial upheaval affect the Toffees? They’ll probably still finish mid-table but with Paddy paying each-way to four places, he could be a worthy outside contender to repeat last term’s tally.
