19:45 Hull v Wigan: Hull To Win

Hull could not have wished for a better return to life in the Championship, scoring four goals to come from behind at Preston and go top of the league after the first week of action. They will undoubtedly rest players for Tuesday’s clash with Wigan, but Grant McCann still should be able to name a fairly strong team, while the mood inside the KCOM should be buoyant following such an impressive opening day win.

This is Hull’s first competitive home match in front of fans in almost 18 months and the KCOM should be bouncing following their League One title win last season. They will want to mark the return of home fans with a fitting performance and a clash against League One Wigan, in a relatively pressure-free encounter, offers an excellent opportunity to do so.

Wigan, meanwhile, have improved greatly throughout 2021 and fought off near certain relegation to League Two with an excellent finish to last season.  They gave Sunderland a run for their money on the opening day of the season on Saturday, but ultimately fell short in a closely fought encounter.

Tuesday’s game against Hull will not mean too much to the Latics, whose ultimate aim will be to consolidate their place in League One as they attempt to rebuild after a turbulent period.

19:45 Peterborough v Plymouth: Peterborough To Win

While Hull enjoyed the perfect return to Championship football, the same cannot be said about Darren Ferguson’s Peterborough, who went down to a 3-0 defeat at Luton Town – which leaves them bottom of the table.

Peterborough have an important game against fellow relegation candidates Derby next and could do with a confidence booster against Plymouth at home on Tuesday night.

Plymouth fell to a 2-0 defeat at Rotherham on the opening day of their league campaign and lost home and away to Peterborough in the league last season without scoring a goal. They could suffer a similar result at London Road on Tuesday.

19:45 Rotherham v Accrington Stanley: Rotherham To Win

Rotherham got off to the perfect start to life in League One with a comfortable 2-0 win over Plymouth on the opening day.

Manager Paul Warne will have sought a fast start to their league campaign as they attempt to get over the heartache of last season, when the concession of an 88th-minute equaliser at Cardiff on the last day of the campaign sent them down to the third tier.

Back-to-back home wins would spark optimism for the season ahead and they should be confident against an Accrington Stanley outfit that fell to an opening day defeat at Wycombe, and who has not won a League Cup game since 2017.

19:45 Harrogate Town v Rochdale: Draw

Harrogate and Rochdale face off for the second time in three days after a 91st-minute Harrogate winner condemned recently relegated Rochdale to a 3-2 defeat on the opening day of the season.

In truth, Saturday’s end-to-end game could have gone either way, with both sides guilty of spurning decent goalscoring opportunities. There is far less riding on Tuesday’s clash however, with both sides likely to prioritise upcoming league fixtures at the weekend.

Consequently, this League Cup fixture is probably going to be a lot less hell-for-leather than the corresponding fixture. Penalties may be required to decide a winner between these two evenly matched sides.

19:45 Peterborough v Plymouth: Peterborough To Win
19:45 Rotherham v Accrington Stanley: Rotherham To Win
