For Monday’s roundup of European football we’re off to Sweden’s Allsvenskan where sixth and seventh in the league face each other. Then to Germany, where Kaiserslautern host Borussia Monchengladbach in a DFB Pokal match and finally to the Portuguese Primeira Liga where Gil Vicente open their league campaign for the season and welcome Boavista to Estadio Cidade de Barcelos. Let’s look at where we’ve turned up some value in the betting markets.
The home side come into this clash with the better overall form. They’ve now won three of their last five in the league, losing the other two while Kalmar have won just one of their last five, drawing one and losing three. Norrkoping’s home form is slightly better with three wins, one draw and one loss over their last five on home turf while Kalmar have drawn three and lost two over their last five on the road in the league.
The teams have met six times in the league here since 2015 with Norrkoping winning all of them. Over 2.5 goals landed in four of those games, Both Teams to Score was seen in four as well. Kalmar have scored in nine of their last 10 away league games and Norrkoping aren’t exactly famous for their defence, conceding in nine of their last 10 at home. Norrkoping are the better of the two sides though formwise but we should see both scoring. Norrkoping to Win and BTTS has some great value here.
Kaiserslautern’s season is two games old while ‘Gladbach are yet to kick a ball in competitive football this season. The home side however have been less than impressive over their opening Bundesliga III games where they’ve drawn one and lost one, failing to scored a single goal so far.
‘Gladbach have had a long preseason, playing five games, most notably beating Bayern Munich 0-2 however, it must be said that hardly any of the usual Bayern Starting XI featured. The market is going with BTTS here, the odds are very low and it’s hard to see Kaiserslauten drawing another blank here.
They scored 24 over their 19 home league games last season and ‘Gladbach just don’t really bother defending, they conceded an eye-watering 37 goals on their 17 away games in the league last season, only Schalke conceded more. ‘Gladbach are obviously the better side but with their cavalier approach to defending and Kaiserslautern well overdue a goal we’re liking the looks of ‘Gladbach to Win & Overs here.
Both Gil Vicente and Boavista didn’t have the best of seasons last time around, finishing 11th and 12th respectively. Gil Vicente had a particularly bad time of it at home where they won just four home games in the league, drawing four and losing nine. They’d won seven on the road last season. Boavista were pretty bad on their league travels, winning just three games, drawing eight and losing six.
Gil Vicente have scored in seven of their last 10 on home soil while Boavista have scored in eight of their last 10 on their league travels and the odds on Both Teams To Score here are too good to turn up our noses at with those stats.
