Carlo Ancelotti couldn’t quit Everton quick enough as he packed his bags and headed for some Spanish sunshine and the Real Madrid job. Three-time Champions League-winning coach Zidane resigned as Real Madrid boss at the end of last season after his second spell in charge proved to be not as fruitful as the first.

  • So Everton went for Rafa but it’s not working out. Here’s our Next Everton Manager Odds on who could replace Benitez at Goodison.

Ancelotti had been on Merseyside for just 19 months but the offer to head back to the club he led to a 10th European Cup in 2014 was too big of a proposal to turn down. So, who will fill in for the legendary Italian boss? Here are the contenders to be the Next Everton manager.

RAFA BENITEZ

Well, this one would be controversial and looks like a goer at the moment. One of Liverpool’s favourites in the red half of the city, could Rafa return to English football at the home of his old club’s bitter rivals? Stranger things have happened…

NUNO ESPIRITO SANTO

Nuno Espirito Santo left Wolves on the final day of the season after an underwhelming final few months at Molineux. Promotion from the Championship, two seventh-place finishes and a run to the Europa League quarter-finals before that were far more impressive, though.

The Portuguese could offer a safe pair of hands at Goodison Park but Everton face competition from Crystal Palace for Nuno.

GRAHAM POTTER

Brighton boss Graham Potter is highly regarded and would be a solid appointment for Everton but would Toffees fans be sold on the move?

Potter’s Brighton are the kings of expected goals but they fail to convert their chances. Maybe Potter could get more out of this Everton side.

Roberto Martinez

They say never go back. Roberto Martinez has undergone something of a career revival after getting the boot at Everton in 2016. He’s guided Belgium to the top of the FIFA World Rankings but is thought to be keen to return to club management after Euro 2020.

Lucien Favre

Lucien Favre is said to have recently rejected the chance to take over at Crystal Palace. Maybe he’s got something else lined up? He’s in the running for a number of Premier League jobs, according to Paddy’s traders.

DUNCAN FERGUSON

Big Dunc’s been learning the ropes from Ancelotti and had a decent stint as the club’s caretaker before.

It’s safe to say he has the respect of the players – well, if nothing else they know not to get on the wrong side of him – so is it time for the Toffees legend to take the hotseat?

CHRISTOPHE GALTIER

Christophe Galtier’s stock is incredibly high at the moment after the Frenchman guided Lille to the Ligue 1 title this year, beating Mauricio Pochettino’s PSG to the crown. We know how desperate Everton are for silverware and Galtier could help achieve the aim.

EDDIE HOWE

Would it be a next manager story if Eddie Howe wasn’t in the mix? The former Bournemouth boss has been linked with numerous clubs but he’s yet to find a job.

Howe held talks with Celtic, however, the move broke down. Could the Toffees prove more appealing?

FRANK LAMPARD

He put Chelsea on course for Champions League glory – well, sort of – and will fancy another shot at managing in the Premier League. He’s been touted for almost every big job going since Roman gave him the boot at Stamford Bridge, but could a switch to Goodison get over the line?

David Moyes West Ham Doncaster FA Cup January 23, 2021

DAVID MOYES

The Moyesiah did wonders at Everton during his first spell at the club and proved he’s still got it by getting West Ham into the Europa League this season.

Could the lure of a return to Goodison tempt him away from the London Stadium?

WAYNE ROONEY

If not Big Dunc, then how about another Everton legend? His Derby side didn’t finish the season in style, only scraping Championship survival on the final day. But an emotional return to his former club can’t be ruled out for England’s record goalscorer.
