Paul Ince played in one of the most famous England v Germany clashes ever at Euro ’96 and thinks it’s time the Three Lions extracted some revenge – just the 25 years later. The two old rivals meet at Wembley on Tuesday night for their gargantuan last 16 Euro 2020 clash.

NEW TO PADDY POWER?

Germany have been underwhelming and were perhaps a little lucky to make it out of their group following a sensational final round of fixtures in Group F on Wednesday. With more than just a place in the quarter-finals up for grabs, here’s Paddy’s ambassador’s verdict on the big match.

It was a funny one because as the Hungary v Germany and the Portugal v France games were going on there were so many permutations. One minute it was Portugal then France, then it could have been Hungary and I’m thinking, ‘Please, please not the Germans.’

But that’s what happened and, I don’t know, it’s a bittersweet moment for me. I don’t know if we want to play them because we want a bit of payback for Euro ’96 or we don’t want to play them because it could be our last game in the Euros!

It was one of those types of feelings. But, listen, it’s here you can’t get away from it. It’s a big game and everyone’s looking forward.

It’s a tough call. It’s a really tough call.

I’m going to say England to win, I really, really am. But I’d also say Both Teams to Score. The Germans have got this knack, they’ve done it in every major tournament where they struggle in the group stages but then seem to get better and better when it comes to knockout football.

That’s the thing that concerns me at this moment but I’m going to go Both Teams to Score and England Win. In terms of a goal scorer, it’s got to be my man Harry Kane. He’s got to score.

He hasn’t scored for the whole tournament but it’s all about timing for Harry Kane. He’s had a bit of criticism but he’s our talisman, he’s the one we need to make things happen so I’m going Harry Kane to Score 2 or More goals.
