Paddy ambassador Emmanuel Petit is looking forward to Portugal’s huge clash with Germany on Saturday evening. Following the Germans’ 1-0 loss to Petit’s beloved France on Tuesday, they’ll be desperate for the win here.
Portugal eventually swept Hungary aside 3-0 in their opener and will qualify for the next round of Euro 2020 with a win. So, with all eyes on the group of death, how does Petit see this one going?
Germany have no choice, they have to get at least a point. They know they don’t have a joker anymore and it’s always difficult to play against Portugal because it’s very difficult to score goals against them. I predict a win from Germany, at least 1-0. I think Thomas Muller will score because they are missing that killer instinct up front, but I think Germany played well against France.
We were just a bit too strong for them. It’s always a big game against Portugal and it’s always very tight and decided by the little details. I’m pretty sure Cristiano Ronaldo will want to score more goals to put his name a little bit more into football history.
Saturday 5pm: Portugal v Germany ITV and ITV Hub
I’m predicting a reaction from Germany. I think it will be a tight result, 1-0 to Germany. There won’t be a lot of goals in that game. It’s always tight in big games. There will be a bit of fear from Germany because they need a point but they have so many experienced players and they are so capable of taking the pressure.
They have character and personality. Portugal know that they won in the first game and if France win against Hungary, Didier Deschamps will make a lot of changes for the last group game and that will be easier for Portugal to get at least a point against us.
Germany are capable of scoring goals at any time but they lack that killer instinct. I have a feeling sometimes they need two, three, four chances to score and on this pitch you need to be a killer. I’m going to go for an experienced player like Thomas Muller to Score Anytime and show the example.
