World Cup ’98 and Euro 2000 champ Emmanuel Petit is back to deliver his verdict on Italy’s final group game with Wales on Sunday at 5pm. Paddy’s football ambassador is excited by the Italian’s newfound attacking mentality and is expecting them to make it a clean sweep in Group A.
Wales have probably done enough to secure a route into the last 16 but if they could beat Italy they would top the group and a draw would see them wrap up second. Brace yourself as we enter the realm of permutations but first, here’s Manu’s views on Italy v Wales.
I’ve been very impressed with the way Italy play. I’m not yet used to it because in the history of Italian football it’s always been tactics like Catenaccio all the time, you know? Trying not to concede goals rather than trying to score them. This is new for us to see Italy scoring goals!
I can’t remember a time when they’ve scored many goals like this. I was very disappointed with Switzerland and their performance but, in the mean time, Italy look fresh physically, they look fresh mentally, full of confidence in front of their own fans.

When you think Roberto Mancini took over four years ago it was a mess, this team. They’ve got a new mentality with a new approach to the game. They’ve already qualified so maybe Mancini will make some changes but I would predict a tight win for Italy, something like 2-1.
I know it’s hard to score goals against them but the fact that Giorgio Chiellini is injured he’ll be a big miss in the defence. I’d say 2-1 to Italy. I think Lorenzo Insigne will Score Anytime because he needs one. Ciro Immobile is in great form and has scored in the last two so I think, for sure, Immobile will Score Anytime as well.
