Germany tackle old foes France in Munich in what looks like the biggest game of the tournament so far. We should be for an absolute belter between the tournament’s most successful side and the world champions.
Joachim Low’s side haven’t hit the heights of late with a 6-0 thrashing by Spain and shock 2-1 reverse to North Macedonia standout results. But with home advantage against their neighbours, the Germans will fancy their chances against the losing finalists of Euro 2016. Without further ado, let’s get to looking at some tips for this Group F thriller.

France are entering the Euros undefeated in 18 games. Compare that against a German side with an identity crisis that received a 6-0 drubbing against Spain in November and an equally embarrassing loss against North Macedonia in Qatar 2022 qualifying and we can see why coach Joachim Low is on the way out.
Germany have only failed to score once in their last 24 games- that being in the 6-0 demolition against Spain in November. Low decided he’d see what Germany would be like if he abandoned leaders like Thomas Muller and Mats Hummels, and in fairness, he learned his lesson and recalled the duo for this tournament. France on the other hand have only failed to score once in their last 19.
Both sides are brimming with attacking talent, and there’s been at least two goals scored in eight out of their last ten games combined. Antoine Griezmann is in flying form and the experienced Thomas Muller is back to spearhead the Germany attack. Expect goals in this game.
We’ve seen it at Barcelona, at the pre-tournament friendlies and unfortunately if you’re Irish you saw it in 2016 too. Griezmann is a key part of the French attack, pulling the strings as he floats between attacking midfield and second striker. He averages 1.2 shots on target per 90 minutes and expect this game to be no different.
Robin Gosens picked himself up 11 bookings this season at Atalanta. He’s a talented left-back and very capable of going forward with 11 goals and eight assists this year, but all that going forward means he’s liable to be caught out of position and commit fouls.
