I’ll be supporting Scotland at the Euros because my own nation have better things to be doing: like going a goal down to Andorra. And after a 2-2 draw with the Netherlands amid leaving half their squad behind as a COVID precaution, they’re surely now figuring into people’s minds, right?

Well, with Che Adams yet to come back into the side, there’ll be considerably more goal threat – which is funny given that they’ve just slotted two past one of the hipster picks for the entire tournament. They didn’t give too much away from an attacking perspective against the Netherlands, but their counter-attacking approach in that game is likely to subside to a sustained build-up against Luxembourg.

Because, as you know, no self-respecting side could ever possibly lose to Luxembourg in a game of association football, now could they?

In their final warmup for the Euros, Scotland are now set to make a genuine statement and hitting a few goals here might well set them right for the opener against the Czechs – the game they’ll have to win if they’re to qualify. Here are three bets to mark the occasion.

The Shorty: Scotland to Win

Well, yeah. The fact they’re semi-functional to begin with probably helps here. The thing about Scotland compared to the other nations around them at their skill-level, is that they do possess an inherent belief that they can get results.

If you decide you’re going to beat Luxembourg, you will. It might go slightly under the radar in terms of a trait of a side who aren’t world beaters in international football, but the fact a large chunk of the squad plays in the SPL really fosters the homegrown identity of it. They’ll be fine.

Value Play: Both Teams To Score In The First Half

I can easily see Luxembourg scoring, though. Look, I understand we all made the jokes about Ireland and rightly so, but there were genuine moments of quality in their build-up at the Aviva Stadium too, no matter how much we want to ignore it.

Don’t be surprised if they land a blow early as Scotland do things at half-pace and then quickly have to wrestle back to impetus.

Long Shot: Half-Time/Full-Time – Luxembourg/Scotland

Just on the off-chance that Luxembourg grab their goal too close to the half-time whistle for Scotland to immediately respond, this is a lovely priced insurance option for you and I’d advise a hedge of sorts on it.

Luxembourg know that playing the home nations will get their overhaul and football development the most attention – and honestly, they deserve the attention. So, their big performances will generally be kept for the bigger occasion, and this is one of those times. It’s also the first time anyone has ever considered playing Scotland a big occasion, but I digress.
