It was a shame to see Trent Alexander-Arnold being ruled out of Euro 2020 through injury, but while it is a blow for England, they have many options and solutions in the right-back position.
NEW TO PADDY POWER?
If you told me Harry Kane was injured, I’d say that was a big blow! But if you look at England’s squad, Reece James was amazing in the Champions League final and Kyle Walker is back to his best.
I wouldn’t be worried about that position.
Bukayo Saka scored his first goal for England against Austria in midweek and he was one of the few positives for Arsenal this season. His behaviour on the pitch is remarkable, he’s a wonderful player with a great mentality and has brilliant desire.
If you asked him what position he would like to play, it would be difficult for him to answer because he has played so many. If you asked him to play in goal he would love it, because his aim is to play for his country.
He’s been one of the best players for Arsenal over the last two seasons and he has a bright future with England and with Arsenal. He’s going to be one of the leaders of the team for Arsenal and if he keeps working the way he is, he will keep improving and become a very important player for England.
England have big potential but lack of experience could be costly
England have the potential and the talent to go all the way at the European Championship. They are strong in every position, but it could still be a bit early for them. They could be a real contender, and the fact that they [England] are at home for most of their games could make a huge difference, but you have to say that teams like France and Belgium are at a higher level just now.
England have many powerful and talented players, but you need experience at the highest level and that lack of it, could be a weak link for England.
In a big competition like this, you need experienced players.
Of course, I would love to see France win it. We are the world champions, and we were finalists in the last European Championship at home in 2016. Didier Deschamps has raised the level so high with this team, and the players are so focused on writing their names in football history again.
