Fair play to the head buckos running La Liga for again allowing the second-to-last matchday to all kick-off at the same time. We should doff our hats to the French here too, but more on them later. Let’s get the standings out of the way; Atletico Madrid are on 80 points with +40 goals, Real are on 78 with +37 goals while Barcelona are on 76 on +47 goals.
We don’t really need to go into all the different possibilities of different results over each teams’ two remaining games here, but let’s just boil it down to this; all three of them need to win this weekend.
Bilbao love nothing more than throwing a spanner in the works and over their last six games hosting Real at home they’ve only lost three of them, winning one and drawing three. They’re unbeaten over their nine most recent home La Liga games too. However, they’ve only won one of their last five, drawing the other four with Both Teams To Score landing in eight of those nine games.
Real are also unbeaten over their last nine away league encounters, winning six, drawing three with Both Teams To Score landing in four. Both Teams are in good goal-scoring form too, Bilbao scoring seven over their last five at home, Real scoring 11 over their five away games.
Osasuna have only beaten Atletico once over their last 10 attempts away from home, and they only scored in three of those 10 games. As you already know, Atletico have one of the best defences in world football (if not the best) conceding just 0.56 goals on average per home La Liga game. Osasuna are scoring just 0.83 on their league travels.
Atletico have conceded just three goals over their last six La Liga games and just two over their last five at home. We could go with Atletico To Win To Nil here, but we’re getting better odds going with scores.
Barca’s hopes are just a glimmer at this stage, but it’s still possible if other results go their way. They can’t really worry too much about other results; all they can do is win here. They threw away a golden opportunity midweek against Levante, going from 0-2 up at half-time to drawing 3-3. They won’t be much worried about Vigo here though, as they’ve beaten them in eight out of their last 10 visits to the Nou Camp in all competitions, losing and drawing one each.
Barca aren’t great at keeping clean sheets at home though, of their last nine La Liga home games they’ve only kept three and are conceding bang on 1.0 goals per home game. Vigo have scored in six of their last nine on their league travels and are scoring 1.56 per game on their league excursions. Both teams should get on the scoresheet, but Barca’s dominance over this fixture is a trend that should continue.
Lille need four points from a possible six to land their first Ligue 1 title in 10 years. Their league form is pretty good of late as well, they’ve won five of their last six home/away games. At home their record isn’t quite so impressive, but they’ve still only lost one of their last five there – drawing two and winning two.
St Etienne’s away form is pretty decent, they’ve won three of their last five on the road, losing the other two. However, the away outfit haven’t won here in a league match since a Ligue 2 encounter way back in 1998. They have won here twice since, one was a friendly and the other was a cup match, but over their five most recent meetings here Lille have won four, one ended level.
Much of Lille’s success this year has been down to their strong defence, however of late they’ve been conceding a few at home – only keeping two clean sheets over their last five at home and St Etienne have scored at least one in all seven of their most previous away matches. Lille should continue their march towards the title here, but St Etienne are more than good enough to get one.
PSG must win here to keep the pressure on Lille above them, especially with them playing a St Etienne side who are scoring plenty of late. The Parisians have won four of their last five league games, drawing the other. Their home form isn’t great though, they’ve won two and lost three of their last five, they had been on a run of six wins in-a-row prior to that.
Reims’ form is pretty bad, they’ve won just one of their last eight in the league, drawing five and losing two. Away from home things are much better with two wins and three draws, scoring six. With PSG failing to keep a single clean sheet over their last six league games at home they’ll be confident of getting on the scoresheet here.
