For Friday night’s football acca we’re off to the Portuguese Liga Nos where Ferreira take on Gil Vicente and the away side can ensure their top flight survival and later in the night, Braga who have already qualified for Europe, take on Moreirense who are chasing the final European place.
We’re also off to Ireland then where Drogheda face a St Pats side, who they’ve lost to in five of their last six meetings at home, and to the Premier League where Newcastle host Premier League champions Manchester City. Let’s find some value in the markets.
Ferreira have already qualified for European football next season and while the odds are quite long on Vicente falling into the relegation zone they could still do down if other results go against them. A draw though will ensure their Liga Nos survival. Ferreira have won one of their last five league matches, drawing three and losing one.
At home things are a bit better with two wins, one draw and two losses. Vicente have only won one of their last five league matches, drawing two and losing two. Away from home things are far better where they’ve won four of their last five, losing the other one.
Both have a fairly respectable amount of goals scored over their home/away games with the home side averaging 1.44 goals per home league matches, Gil Vicente have been scoring 1.13. Vicente have the momentum here and need the points more than Ferreira but with both enjoying decent scoring records, Both Teams to Score is where the smarter money will go.
10 games into the season, Shamrock Rovers hold the top spot in the Premier Division with St Pats five points behind them in second. Drogheda put seven past Waterford last weekend but it was their first win in six league games. St Pats have won three of their last five, drawing one and losing one.
Away from home they’re undefeated over their five away games this season, drawing three and winning two, while Drogs have won one, drawn three and lost one. Pats have won five out of six recent meetings here between the sides too and, while Drogheda looked good last weekend, that one home win this season in the league coupled with their terrible record at home to St Pats means we have to go with the away side here.
Premier League champions Man City don’t exactly have the best of records at St James’ Park. Over their five most recent visits in all competitions they’ve won two, losing one and drawing two. Their away Premier League form has been fantastic though, winning all 11 of their most previous away league encounters, keeping seven clean sheets over those 11 games.
Friday 8pm: Newcastle v Manchester City Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League
Newcastle have won just one of their last five on home soil, drawing three and losing one. City have kept Newcastle scoreless in five of their last eight visits there and while, as previously mentioned, their record at St James’ Park isn’t wonderful their current streak of 11 straight away wins in-a-row and those seven clean sheets should see City taking all three points here and another clean sheets back to Manchester. The value here is with Man City to Win to Nil.
Braga will be back in European football next season, but a win for Moreirense here would see them taking the final European place from Vitoria Guimaraes with just a game to go following this round of matches. Braga are short-odds favourites to win here but their form is quite patchy of late, winning one, drawing two and losing two of their five most previous matches. At home their record is the same.
Moreirense have won one, drawn three and lost one of their five most recent in the league while away from home they’ve won two, drawn one and lost two. The away side have the momentum and better form here but Braga have only lost one of their last eight meetings between the pair here. We’re taking Moreirense in the Double Chance market to give ourselves some cover here.
These selections in an acca-insured four fold will give you odds of around 17/1 with Paddy Power.
