Paddy’s football ambassador Phil Thompson turns his steely gaze to Wednesday night’s big Chelsea v Arsenal clash in the Premier League. The Liverpool legend is anticipating an easy win for The Blues over their London rivals at Stamford Bridge.
If he’s right then it will be a blow to his Liverpool’s hopes of making the top four while Chelsea will be all-but qualified for next season’s competition. So, with plenty to play, for here’s Thommo’s two best bets for Wednesday night’s main event.
I’m not expecting loads of goals, well I am for Chelsea, but not all round. I think that this Chelsea side are made of sterner stuff, they don’t give much away. They’ve had 18 clean sheets in their last 25 games in all competitions.
That tells you that they’re quite mean at the back and since Tommy Tuchel has come in it’s been quite extraordinary, hasn’t it? We’ve all seen the change in this Chelsea side and what a win at Manchester City last weekend.
For them to go there and to take them on, we know they’ve got an FA Cup final, we know they’ve got a Champions League final, but they still took on Manchester City. It’s another big stepping stone for Tuchel’s side.
Wednesday 8.15pm: Chelsea v Arsenal Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League
I just think they’re a really tough outfit at this moment. Will they relax a little bit because they’ve got the FA Cup final next weekend? For Arsenal, you’re looking at them thinking they went out of the Europa League with a whimper, fans weren’t happy. Phone ins have been really, really hard on Mikel Arteta and his side.
But then they come up with a really good win against West Brom at home. They beat them 3-1 so they’ll be quite happy but they’ve lost 13 Premier League games. It shows they’re quite venerable at times.
THOMMO’S TIPS:I am going for goals but they’re going to be for Chelsea and I’m going 2-0 to Chelsea. I can’t see Arsenal scoring so this will be a decent bet for them to Win to Nil. I think Timo Werner has showed a lot more potential than what he did do under Frank Lampard. I think Tuchel is getting a lot more so I’m going for Werner to Score Anytime.
