West Ham have slowly come to terms with reality and that likelihood of them finishing in the top four seems about as likely now as it did in August. Back to back losses against Newcastle and Chelsea see them six adrift, albeit with a game in hand. For them to land a blow and secure a run-in of four games that can truly offer their fanbase a means to excitement, they have to be winning here.

No matter what they do now, it’s been a real over-achievement in any case – but the point stands that unless they can bring this to the wire, the last few months are little more than a teasing false position.

And not to say this is a time for self-reflection, but the irony that their season could end at the hands of a claret and blue-wearing side who’ve been progressive this year in light of previous stereotypes about their football isn’t lost on me.

Burnley, in my eyes, have been better than a number of sides ahead of them in the league. Are they about to hit West Ham with a dose of reality?

Burnley to Win

Forget the fact they’re coming off a 4-0 win over Wolves. Forget the fact they’ve been consistently better than their results suggest all year. Forget the fact that they’d jump into a deserved occupation of 13th spot with a win.

Just remember that they’re playing a side desperate for a result and they’re like leeches. Burnley feed off other people’s pain and land them blows in the worst possible moments. For the longest time, that’s been their primary purpose in this league and it won’t be stopping now.

Over 2.5 Goals

Burnley’s home form worries me. Or at least it would if this was a run of the mill game in the Premier League that could end in a draw and have both sides content with it.

To this point, Burnley have won at home in close games and they haven’t picked up three points at Turf Moor since January. Their away wins by contrast have come when they’ve genuinely outplayed the opposition.

I suspect that we’ll finally see a flip of this and Sean Dyche and co can translate their clear footballing ability in a home game that will feel like an away game – against a side chasing a win, full of angst and offering plenty of space because of it.

Chris Wood to Have Two or More Shots on Target

I’ll give you a tough one.

What’s Chris Wood’s market value? Hard to know isn’t it? He’s so blissfully talented yet undervalued in almost every aspect.

All he does is produce in the big moments. And while I’d normally back him to bag knowing that, I feel he’ll get far more clear cut chances in front of goal than usual, so it’s safer to opt for this.

Jesse Lingard to Have Three or More Shots

In a lot of ways, the form of Lingard has dragged West Ham to this point and his conversion rate looked both scary and unsustainable.

He’s the main attacking threat for David Moyes’ side and expect him to pepper Nick Pope’s goal throughout the 90 minutes.
