Phil Thompson’s really spoiling us now. Paddy’s football ambassador takes a deep dive into Chelsea and Manchester City’s FA Cup clash at the weekend in his latest round of tips.
It looks a mouth-watering game in prospect in the first FA Cup semi final of the season at Wembley on Saturday and our man can hardly contain his excitement. The ever-professional folk at PPTV managed to get him to calm down for five minutes and deliver his barrage of best bets right here.
What a game this is. I’m so looking forward to it, I think it’ll be fantastic. Chelsea… where did that result come from against West Brom? 5-2? They’ve had 12 clean sheets in the last 18 games!
It was quite astonishing. To turn it round and come back to beat Crystal Palace 4-1 was great. I think Thomas Tuchel used that West Brom game as motivation. I know they got beat by Porto in the Champions League but they were already through with a great result.
So, this is a team that is in good form. They’ll want to get to the final after losing last year to Arsenal. They’ve got a good record in this competition.
Manchester City, they came back from 1-0 down to see off Borussia Dortmund but got beat against Leeds United last time – I don’t know how the heck that happened. But City have won seven of the last nine meetings against Chelsea.

That tells me they have a little bit of something over them. You look at their leading goal scorer, it’s still Ilkay Gundogan with 16. Phil Foden now has 13 goals. You’ve got Gabriel Jesus and Raheem Sterling also on 13 but there’s no Sergio Aguero in there and if your midfield players are chipping in that’s how you win trophies.
