Paddy’s football ambassador Phil Thompson is backing Liverpool to make it past Real Madrid in their Champions League quarter final on Wednesday night. The Premier League champions trail Real 3-1 after the first leg and Thommo can see them reversing that scoreline and taking it to extra time.
The Liverpool legend is hoping for a big performance with Mo Salah and Sadio Mane having their shooting boots on as well. So, without further ado, let’s take a look at Thommo’s tips with PPTV.
Liverpool’s big Champions League turnarounds were with the fans in there and you knew they could do it. You think of the Barcelona game, you go back to the days when I was playing, St Etienne, and other games included. It’s been wonderful but there’s no fans in there.
I’m sticking with the Reds, maybe it’s heart over head but I’m sticking with the Reds, you know why? I hope we’ve learnt. We weren’t very savvy in the game last week.
We let their antics get to us. They were playing properly in the European style, falling over, getting free kicks, everything. Jurgen Klopp couldn’t mention it but the foul on Sadio Mane just prior to the second goal was outrageous.

How VAR could look at it and not only say it wasn’t a penalty but it wasn’t a foul or a red card, it was astonishing. We weren’t savvy enough to fall over and I hope Jurgen Klopp says, ‘you may be thinking this is gamesmanship, but let’s do that’.
We were very much like that years ago. If we’re like that now we won’t play a poorly as what we did last week. We didn’t keep the ball, we didn’t do that press together as we should have done and I think maybe that’s why Naby Keita was taken off when he was because he wasn’t doing a job on Toni Kroos.
I think we will hopefully have learnt not to have too high a line but to play more together. So, with these things playing out, I do think Madrid will score and Both Teams To Score is a good bet.
THOMMO’S TIPS:Get this, over 90 minutes 3-1 to Liverpool. People will say that’s Thommo’s favourite scoreline and I’m going for it again. That’s inside the 90 minutes. I’m also going for Liverpool to Qualify in extra time and Both Teams To Score.
I’m going for Mo Salah to Score First because he’s on penalties and he’s hot at the moment. I think Sadio Mane will score anytime. He’s been so short of goals at the moment and if he gets that little bit of luck I think he’ll be on that scoresheet as well.
