For whatever reason, the leading broadcasters have decided not to show Wigan and Colchester’s U23s face-off in a battle for the ages, so we’re stuck with Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich. It’s not a bad complaint, but just do better. I suppose we’ll focus on the task at hand though, and think about Kylian Mbappe going up against Thomas Muller on a cool spring evening in Bavaria.

Historically, these two sides have had different mindsets. Generally speaking, Bayern prevail unless Ole’s at the wheel and PSG fail miserably – with their most embarrassing defeat in recent times at the hands of Ole’s United side, too.

With Bayern cruising towards yet another title, their primary focus can once again be placed firmly on Europe, while PSG are facing somewhat of a crisis in Ligue 1 – sitting three points behind Lille and they’ve have lost twice in their last five.

So, what happens when an all-conquering unit who are in top form with a sole focus take on an opponent who are in all sorts of bother? Here’s a Bet Builder to find out.

Bayern to Win

This price is exceptionally generous given the fact away games really aren’t an issue for visiting teams anymore, bar the mid-week European travel. And even that was diminished somewhat by the neutral grounds coming into play because of the pandemic. But, we’re now seeing PSG fly into Munich to tackle Bayern in a year where they’ve not been beaten at the venue, and where they’ve scored 50 times in just 13 games there in the league.

In fact, Werder Bremen were the only team to stop them from scoring twice or more across the entire Bundesliga campaign to date. I wish Paris Saint-Germain well in this expedition.

Both Teams to Score

Yes, in spite of the fact that Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting has played for both of these sides in the last year, they’ve both still maintained the ability to score goals. This is the same bloke who looked subpar for Stoke City and who has scored just seven times in his last 48 games for two of the best club sides in the world.

However, they’ve more than made up for it via Robert Lewandoski, Thomas Muller, Serge Gnabry, Leroy Sane, Leon Goretzka, Kinglsey Coman, Kylian Mbappe, Mauro Icardi, Julian Draxler, Neymar, Angel Di Maria and Pablo Sarabia.

Over 3.5 Goals

Two-legged affairs are often cagey and that’s a big negative when games are close, but when this one blows open midway through the second half, there’ll be no benefit for PSG to sit back if they go two goals behind like I anticipate.

Not that either of these sides are known to be sheepish about trying to score in the first place, but in a competition where away goals reward you for being cheeky, I suspect there’ll be more overlaps than the M6 by full-time.

Half-Time: Draw

However, the one major difference between these two is that PSG lose focus as a game goes on, and Bayern get stronger. Any of the key goals that the Parisians have conceded over the last two months have arrived late and they rarely find key goals in the second halves of games themselves.

Even as Bayern stroll to victory every week, they’re equally as switched on games progress and that’s the perfect example of the difference in mindsets between the perennial winners and the also-rans.
