Way back in the mists of time this would’ve been billed as a top 4 clash between two of the league’s superpowers.
While Liverpool have at least shrugged the monkey off their back of no league titles since football was invented in 1992 before turning back into a seventh-placed pumpkin this season, Arsenal are waist-deep in 30-years-without-a-league-title quicksand and look set for another year without a Champions League last-16 exit to look towards in 2021-22 as they languish in ninth.

The current league placings may have a whiff of mid-table mediocrity, but these two clubs – or their fans, anyway – are still aiming for the stars, so this gets top billing on Saturday evening Easter football feast.

Both Teams to Score – Yes
Arsenal have not kept a clean sheet in any of their last eight Premier League matches. David Luiz and Granit Xhaka are both probably going to miss this game, so you might that will shore things up, but we’d still expect Liverpool to find the net given their firepower.
The Gooners have drawn a blank only once in their last six league games though, and that was against Man City, so they can give as good as they get, especially with Liverpool’s shaky defence still a factor.
Double Chance – Arsenal & Draw
Worryingly for the visitors and their hopes of clambering back into the top 4, they’ve won just twice in their past 20 Premier League away games against Arsenal – a 2-0 in August 2011 and 4-3 in August 2016 punctuating a decade of draws and losses.
While the Gunners started this season terribly, there are signs that coach Mikel Arteta is building something worthwhile, with the emergence of talents like Bukayo Saka and Emile Smith-Rowe. Getting a result against the champions would be a mother sign of that, and they’re worth taking on the Double Chance given the record and Liverpool’s bumpy form and their Champions League quarter-final looming in midweek.
Anytime Goalscorer – Sadio Mane
Though Reds fans can take some comfort in Sadio Mane’s goal-scoring record against the Arse. With seven netted versus the Gunners, only Crystal Palace (10) have allowed the Senegalese more goals in his career.
We’ll throw him in at close to 2/1 to make it eight.
Player to have 2 or More Shots on Target – Alexandre Lacazette
With Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang settling into the Mesut Ozil role at the Emirates, Alexandre Lacazette has had an opportunity to seize a place at the sharp-end of Arsenal’s attack. He’s scored in the last three league games and should be brimming with confidence, so all he has to do is lash a couple of shots on target and this is a good’un. Easy.
