Austria these days are known for their Wiener Schnitzel and David Alaba, and they are definitely enjoying a spell where their national team is flourishing. The Austrians finished second to Poland in their Euro 2020 pool, while Das Team then enjoyed more success when heading a B-level group that contained the likes of Norway and Romania.
The Austrians were also rather unfortunate not to steal all three points from their trip to Hampden Park last week; they conceded an 85th-minute equaliser and ended up drawing 2-2. They bounced back with a 3-1 win over the Faroe Islands and have now scored eight goals in their last four games. Stuttgart striker Sasa Kalajdzic has 11 goals in his last 11 games for both club and country and represents a huge threat for the Austrians.
Wednesday, 19.45: Austria v Denmark Sky Sports Red Button
Their opponents Denmark come in here on the back of an 8-0 defeat of Moldova. They’ve managed to hit the net 14 times in their last four matches so Both Teams To Score in this intriguing match-up is highly likely.
England come into this game full of confidence after wins against San Marino and Albania. The Three Lions were massively boosted by the news that Poland’s star player Robert Lewandowski has been ruled out with a knee ligament injury – although that’s not good news for Bayern Munich!
Wednesday, 19.45: England v Poland ITV/ITV Hub
One can expect Krzysztof Piatek and Arkadiusz Milik to lead the line now, with Poland coming into the game after bouncing back to winning ways with a 3-0 win over Andorra. Before that, they had been held to a 3-3 draw with Hungary last week. Piatek had been linked last summer with a move to AC Milan but ended up moving to Herth Berlin. He has managed seven goals for his club and a couple for his country so far this season and will be a threat to the England team alongside Napoli midfielder Piotr Zielinski, who has six goals and six assists in Serie A. I fancy a home win but even without their talisman, the Polish have enough quality to strike so I fancy Both Teams To Score here also.
Ukraine are the favourites for this one and rightly so after their impressive 1-0 win against Spain last year and more recently their 1-1 draw with France. However, they have shifted 10 goals in their last five games so it’s safe to assume they are not water tight at the back.
Wednesday, 19.45: Ukraine v Kazakhstan Sky Sports Red Button
The visitors come into this game having lost their last three games to Lithuania, Albania and France. They struggled to create chances against France but managed plenty in the defeats to Lithuania and Albania and I think they may have a goal in them against the Ukrainians. I will be throwing this fixture into my Both Teams To Score acca!
Scotland are unbeaten in their last seven games now at Hampden Park, although they needed to survive a hairy moment or two to share the spoils with the Austrians last week. Steve Clarke’s men looked better against Israel last Sunday after reverting to a traditional back four.
Wednesday, 19.45: Scotland v Faroe Islands Sky Sports Main Event
In 2020 Scotland had cleans sheets at home against the likes of Israel, Slovakia and the Czech Republic so they are decent at the back and have kept a clean sheet against the Faroe Islands in their last three encounters. A home win and a clean sheet looks looks likely for the Scots after their two opening draws in the group.
