Slim pickings on Monday with no big top flights in action and with a gap in the World Cup qualifiers. The big game of the evening is the Segunda Liga clash at the Estadio Fernando Torres.
Mallorca are riding high in the table as they eye a return to the top flight, their opponents, Fuenlabrada, are safely housed in mid-table. Mallorca were leapfrogged at the top of the table by Espanyol and a draw will be enough to put them back on top, they have all the motivation in the world to win this.
But, Fuenlabrada ended a run of just one win in ten games with a victory over Leganes last week. There will be no pressure on the home team and they can exploit any chances Mallorca give them as they push forward. This looks like a both teams to score banker.
8pm: Den Bosch vs Go Ahead Eagles – Yes
Off to Holland next for an Eerste Divisie clash at the Stadion De Vliert. Go Ahead Eagles are flying, they are on a seven-match unbeaten run that has seen them win six of those. They’ve scored 16 times in those seven games and conceded just once with six clean sheets in their last seven.
The home side are rooted to the bottom of the table and have conceded an alarming 2.34 goals per league game this season. A comfortable away win is expected, but the hosts have scored in four of their last five games so it’s worth siding with them to score again in this one.
7pm: Leixoes vs Vizela -Yes
Vizela will look to continue their march up the table in the Portuguese Segunda Liga clash at the Estádio do Mar. Vizela are unbeaten in 17 league games, winning 10 of those, and a win will put them in an automatic promotion spot.
They will be highly motivated against a Leixoes side that have struggled this season and are currently in 11th place, just seven points above the relegation zone. Leixoes have scored in their last four games and while this should be an away win, the hosts are more than capable of finding the net and rewarding ‘Yes’ backers.
9pm: Chaves vs Penafiel – Yes
We stay in the Portuguese Segunda Liga for what looks like the most open game of the evening. Both Chaves and Penafiel arrive in great form, Chaves are unbeaten in seven games while Penafiel have lost just one of their last six games.
Both teams come into this game looking to claim the three points that would take then closer to a top three finish and potential promotion to Primeira Liga. Both teams have struggled to keep clean sheets and lately and this is a trend I expect to continue tonight. Back both teams to score in our final game of the evening.
