Harry Maguire wins goal line clearance of the season award

It's a goooo.... oh no, he's hit the post from a yard out

Harry Maguire has won the 2020/21 Goal Line Clearance of the Season Award for his heroic block during Manchester United’s 1-1 Europa League draw with AC Milan.

The United skipper rescued his side from taking the lead when he managed to divert the ball onto the post from a yard out following a flick-on from Bruno Fernandes.

Maguire won the season accolade thanks to the combined votes of a panel of experts and the public.

‘As the ball came towards me, I knew any sort of decent connection would result in a goal’, the 28-year-old told Paddy Power News.

‘Thankfully, I’ve made a right dog’s d*ck of it by shanking it off my shin onto the post’.

‘A goal right before half-time would’ve been a real boost for us. I’m just relieved I’ve managed to put it out of play’.

Meanwhile, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes Maguire fully deserves the award and is hoping for more of the same from his skipper before the end of another trophyless campaign.

‘We’re all delighted for Harry’, beamed the 48-year-old.

‘If we’re going to end up empty-handed this season then we need to miss big chances like that’.

‘From where we were it looked like a certain goal. But fair play to Harry, he’s managed to hit the post from half a yard out the d**khead’.

There was more good news for United as Anthony Martial came off at half-time with a hip injury.

‘Anthony’s got a whack and will need a scan’, revealed the Norwegian.

‘He’s got his one good game a season out of his system against City and was back to his old worst tonight’.

‘He won’t be a big loss. I’ll either promote someone from the under 13s or replace him with a garden gnome. You’d probably get better movement in the box from the gnome to be fair’.
