Liverpool legend Phil Thompson is gearing up for the ‘Thommo Derby’ as his beloved Reds head to his other old club, Sheffield United, in Sunday’s late game. Both are in crisis, of sorts, with the champions having lost four games in a row while The Blades are rooted to the foot of the Premier League and look doomed to relegation.
So, with Thommo keeping a keen eye on both clubs’ fortunes, he’s taken a deep dive into Sheffield United v Liverpool with the good folk at PPTV.

Liverpool’s luck with injuries is just incredible. We just seem to have another Liverpool injury update every week I talk to you guys at PPTV. It’s not Jurgen Klopp’s press conference, it’s mine!
Jordan Henderson, we’re pinning our hopes on him, and now he’s had an operation on his groin which could be his season over by the time he gets back from it with rehab and everything. It’s just an absolute nightmare but you have to be positive.
If you’re in there as a player or a coach you’ve got to be positive. Keep your chins up and talk up the people who’ve got to come in and play. People are saying to me that Sheffield United are due a win, and I’ve just gone, ‘Oh my Goodness, not again’.
Sunday 7.15pm: Sheffield United v Liverpool
Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League
Liverpool have lost their last four, they’ve lost six out of the last nine in the Premier League and have failed to score in six of the last 10 and that is really worrying. People have gone on about the defence at Liverpool but it is actually up front where we’ve seen a lack of cutting edge.
We’re not being clinical enough. Bobby Firmino’s looking short of confidence, Diogo Jota’s had a few injuries. But where do we go with Sheffield United? This is the Thommo Derby, by the way, because I was a Blade.
They’ve lost eight of the last 11 Premier League games. Nine of 20 defeats have been 1-0. 13 defeats by just one goal, so it’s quite astonishing. You can see it’s just that little bit missing. I’m hoping that will continue this weekend, I really do.
THOMMO’S TIPS: I do fancy Liverpool to Win. You have to fancy Liverpool. They have to be hurt and I think they will come out firing. Because of Liverpool’s defensive situation I think Both Teams Will Score. I also think Mo Salah and Sadio Mane Will Score Anytime.

For my Sunday double I am going for my beloved Liverpool. I do think we will shake it off and we sill score goals. But I’m also going for Leicester City to Win against Arsenal. That’s my double.
And for my treble, which paid dividends last week with Man City, Man United and Leicester, is Spurs to Win against Burnley thrown in with Liverpool and Leicester this Sunday.
