Everton desperately need to beat an out-of-form Southampton side if they have true ambitions of finishing above rivals Liverpool or breaking into the Champions League places. Carlo Ancelotti’s side should take a good deal of confidence from their win over their neighbours last week, but they urgently need to address their terrible home form in 2021.
The Toffees are without a win in their last five home league games, losing four and drawing one in a run that stretches back to before Christmas. Considering two of those defeats came against Fulham and Newcastle, Everton simply have to put their home struggles behind them before they fall further away from the top-four.
They have an excellent opportunity to turn their Goodison Park fortunes around against a Southampton side without a win in their last eight league games. The visitors have failed to win any of their last six away games in the league, picking up just two points, and they represent the perfect opportunity for Everton to turn their home form around.
The Saints have slipped towards the bottom of the table during their eight-game winless run but should be too good go down. However, their horrendous run could continue on Monday night.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin should be raring to go on Monday night following a short spell on the treatment table. The English striker had scored three goals in three games in all competitions before picking up the minor injury and will have been frustrated that his return to form was stopped in its tracks as he had previously failed to score in eight successive league games for the Toffees.
However, he looked sharp when he came off the bench against Liverpool last week and won his side a dubious late penalty to seal a historic victory. He should find joy against a Southampton side that has conceded 18 goals in their last five league games.
Monday sees a clash between two sides with less than impressive defensive records. Everton have failed to keep a clean sheet at Goodison Park since mid-December and boast the second-worst defensive record in the top nine. Southampton, meanwhile, have conceded 17 goals in their last four league away games.
While the 9-0 thrashing at Old Trafford obviously embellishes that record, they have still conceded eight in three games against Leicester, Newcastle, and Leeds. They are without a clean sheet in eight games and will struggle to contain Everton’s potent attack. They may just nick one at the other end too.
Southampton’s Spanish midfielder has had a season to forget in terms of discipline. Romeu has been booked six times in 20 league appearances this season – a rate of almost once every three games – and is by far and away the most ill-disciplined player at the club this season.
He will have to contend with Everton’s nippy and awkward attacking players on Monday night and it is not difficult to envisage him picking up his seventh booking of the season at Goodison Park.
