Paddy’s Football Ambassador Phil Thompson has pitted his wits against Paddy’s top football trader Jason Murphy once again as the pair preview the big game this weekend, Chelsea v Manchester United. When you think of it, going back a few weeks before Thomas Tuchel came in, this would have been an absolute walkover for Manchester United. But what he’s done has been quite astonishing. Chelsea are unbeaten in eight games.

Having a turnaround like that is super because, as we saw with Frank Lampard, he couldn’t really name his best team. Tuchel’s made some big decisions with Timo Werner coming into the side and bringing on and taking off Callum Hudson-Odoi.

Sunday 4.30pm: Chelsea v Manchester United
Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League

He’s shown himself to have a ruthless streak but it’s the clean sheets, I think, which have been very favourable. He’s brought Marcos Alonso in from the cold and I think it’s the clean sheets which have given them a good basis to improve.

Manchester United are not playing great but they’re finding a way which is the sign of a good side. They’re still the comeback kings away from home. You look at them against Newcastle and it wasn’t brilliant, but they found a way to make it look like a comfortable 3-1.

I’m going for a low-scoring draw. I just can’t split them. Chelsea are on a good run and Manchester United have lost just one in 19 and that was against Sheffield United and goodness knows what happened then. Both Teams To Score is my NAP and I think this will end 1-1.

Jason

We don’t pre plan this and I never know what Phil is going to pick before we press record so it’s music to my ears what he’s saying there. I’m siding with The Draw and I’m siding with Under 2.5 Goals.

Just to give you a bit more context around those selections, when the traditional big six teams meet we see a lot of money from each side’s fans backing their teams which artificially pushes The Draw price too big so there’s often value in the The Draw.

Since Tuchel’s come in, over the eight games he’s been in charge, Under 2.5 Goals has clicked in seven of them. I don’t expect many goals. I do think Tuchel and Chelsea will dominate the game and the ball.

If it’s still 0-0 with 15 minutes to go Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be clever enough to know that a draw wouldn’t be a bad result in the top four race. I’m not expecting many chances and I’m not expecting many goals so I’d be very tempted to side with The Draw and Under 2.5 Goals.

I’d also side with a Shots On Target bet rather than a goal scorer tip as my NAP. This market has been very popular this season and you can look at anytime goal scorers. But, to have 1 or More shots on target in this game, Mason Mount is around even money.

He averages a shot in target every 49 minutes in the Premier League this season. He takes penalties if Jorginho isn’t on the pitch and free kicks as well. In the context of this game, with how Chelsea will dominate posession, Mount could even have a couple of pot shots in the game and we’re quids in if he just hits the target with one of them.

Chelsea v Man Utd Tips

Both Teams to Score (NAP)
