Paddy’s football ambassador and all-round good egg Phil Thompson has teamed up with PPTV yet again to help give you a winning steer for this weekend’s Premier League fixtures. To kick us off, the Liverpool legend runs the rule over champions-elect Manchester City’s game against West Ham and Wolves’ trip to Newcastle.

12.30pm: Manchester City v West Ham

Everyone’s talking about the Manchester City juggernaut, but they’re a bit of a juggernaut themselves, West Ham, aren’t they? Where’s this come from? They must be delighted.

Mind you, I’m delighted for David Moyes because I do know him personally and I’ve always thought he was a very good manager. Not when he was at Everton, though! He’s always been a very good manager and I’m delighted for him and his success at West Ham.

You just look how they’ve turned it round and they have a way of playing. They didn’t have as much possession as Spurs last week but they know how to get results now which is quite astonishing.

And to beat a decent Spurs side, okay they’re not having the best of times, but it’s now 13 Premier League wins for West Ham. Last season they only got 10 all year so it’s a fantastic run that they’re on.

Saturday 12.30pm: Manchester City v West Ham
BT Sport 1 and BT Sport Ultimate

They’ve won six of the last eight and set plays are massive for them. This is where I think David Moyes says, a bit like in his Everton days, we might not have as much possession so we have to make our set plays count.

With Tomas Soucek I think they’ve found an absolute gem there because he makes things happen. I think this will be tricky for Manchester City but who can go against them? I just can’t. It’s not just the results but they’re playing so well.

Even last week against Arsenal they’re passing it, they’re comfortable, they don’t seem to panic. Most other teams at 1-0 up the last 10 minutes would be hectic. Not these. They’re unbeaten in 26 in all competitions. They have the best defence in the Premier League.

That is where they’ve turned this around because defensively I think Manchester City have been far better and that’s given them the licence to go and play a lot better further forward.

8pm: Newcastle v Wolves

I’ve done my homework on this one and it’s bad news for Newcastle – and they’ve had a lot of that recently. I feel for Brucey, again, I do know him personally and he’s a nice guy, but this is football and this is the Premier League. It’s really tough.

I can’t believe it. People are asking me about him smiling with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer coming off the pitch. For goodness sake guys, this is wrong! These two are friends for many, many years.

But on the footballing side where’s it all going wrong? Injuries don’t help. Callum Wilson’s injured and I don’t care, you can have Andy Carroll, you can have Joelinton and you can have Dwight Gayle – they’re not Callum Wilson.

Saturday 8pm: Newcastle v Wolves
Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League

They’ve now lost 12 of the last 16 in all competitions and they’ve lost eight in the Premier League in 2021. I’ll give them a bit of hope. They were down to 10 men last time they were at home and they prevailed against Southampton – a poor Southampton it has to be said – 3-2.

But, Wolves. I just sense there’s a turn. Things are just starting to take shape after they had a very, very tricky time. They won against Leeds at home and against Southampton which was good. They’re unbeaten in four now so, for me, I’m sensing an away win.

Thommo’s Saturday double

For my double this Saturday I have to go for Manchester City. I think they’re steamrollering towards the title this year and I have to go for Man City and Wolves.

Wolves, away from home, I think the betting will be close on that one which will give us a decent price. My double is Manchester City and Wolves to Win.
