Two of the Premier League’s most entertaining sides meet here and if it’s goals you’re after at 6pm on a Tuesday you’re in exactly the right place. Leeds have been a breath of fresh air with their no-holds barred approach to games while Southampton have wowed with their laissez-faire attitude to defending.
Now, I know what you’re thinking – this has got 0-0 written all over it. But, in reality, that simply cannot come to pass. Leeds are 12th with Southampton one place and two points behind them in the table.
Tuesday 6pm: Leeds v Southampton Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League
We all know Southampton lost 9-0 again this season, but did you know that Leeds have actually shipped three more (43) goals than the Saints (40)? Sheffield United have conceded two fewer than Leeds but what do they have to show for it? 21 fewer points, that’s what.
Only five teams have scored more than Marcelo Bielsa’s mavericks and there’s a good chance they could move up a few places in that particular table against a Southampton side who are shot to pieces confidence-wise.
You have to go back to November for the last time the boom-or-bust Leeds drew a game. Southampton picked up a respectable point last time out against Chelsea but that was the first time they avoided defeat in six Premier League outings.
In hindsight, Thomas Tuchel’s pass-you-to-death Chelsea were the perfect opponents for Southampton who were happy to cover up and just stop the losing run any way they could. Leeds are a different kettle of fish and their relentless approach of constant, 100mph, movement should pull this ragged Southampton defence all over the place.
Leeds, for their part, have won three and lost three of their last six and were held to Nil for the first time in six games on Friday. They haven’t won in two but it just feels like we’re heading for a Leeds Win in this one.
In these two teams’ combined 48 Premier League games this season we’ve seen 154 goals, an average of 3.2 per match. It’s clear neither can really defend and they’re both pretty good going forward.
It’s safer to take the Over 2.5 Goals route but to juice up this Bet Builder I don’t really have any concerns about going bigger and opting for Over 3.5 Goals.
This is a no brainer when you take into account everything I’ve just outlined. Both Teams To Score has landed in each of Southampton’s last three games which, in a way, is quite impressive considering the game before that they lost 9-0.
Both Teams To Score is a go-to gamble when Leeds take to the field. Wolves kept them out last time but in the last six it’s landed on four occasions. As mentioned, the key in this game are both sides’ respective defences and we’re backing them to fail again.
Raphinha is really growing into life in the Premier League. The Brazilian is the perfect addition to this Leeds squad. He’s quick, skilful and direct. Patrick Bamford is obviously the main goal threat in this side and he has a healthy haul of 12 already.
However, Paddy knows that and instead we’ll turn to a class player at much-more appealing odds in Raphinha to Score Anytime. He’s got four this term but, in a game where I’m expecting plenty of goals, it’s worth casting the net a little wider as this generous Leeds side do like to share the goals out a bit.
