Birmingham recorded a vital win against fellow strugglers Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend, but that doesn’t mask their wretched form in 2021. Blues have won just two games since mid-December in a run of form that has dragged them into the relegation mix and they will struggle to make it two wins out of two against a Norwich side that seems set for an immediate return to the Premier League.
Norwich have won three games in a row after failing to win their previous three games and seem to have rediscovered their form at a crucial time. They should make light work of a Birmingham side who have failed to win in their last 11 home games in a run stretching back to October.
Middlesbrough have recovered following a horrid run of results earlier in the year to win two games on the bounce and propel themselves back into the playoff picture and they could not ask for a better opponent than Bristol City on Tuesday night.
Bristol were the early-season pace-setters in the Championship, but any optimism at Ashton Gate has most certainly dissipated in 2021.
Bristol have lost their last six Championship games, failing to score in their last four, and are now in relative danger of being sucked into a relegation battle.
That may seem far-fetched, but you only have to look at how Hull fell from 12th to last in the second half of last season. The Robins desperately need a result but will struggle against a rejuvenated Middlesbrough.
Nottingham Forest have an opportunity to put real daylight between themselves and the relegation zone when they take on Rotherham on Tuesday night but could struggle against a resilient Rotherham side. The Millers may find themselves in the relegation zone after three straight defeats, but they were all narrow defeats against some of the best teams in the league.
Prior to that run of defeats, Rotherham picked up 13 points from 18 and they will prove difficult to break down for a Forest side that struggles in front of goal. Forest have lost just twice in their last 12 games but have drawn five of those games and could easily make that six on Tuesday night.
The writing is very much on the wall for Wycombe as the Championship season approaches its run-in and they will almost certainly be heading back to League One in May. Reading, on the other hand, desperately need three points after a poor run of results in their last five games where they collected just four points.
However, they still find themselves in the play-off places and have an ideal opportunity to get their season back on track against a Wycombe side that has won one game in their last eight in the league, picking up just one point at home in 2021.
