There are very few certainties in life. One is that Love Island will never, ever feature a human being with an IQ of over 58. Another is that you, in the end, will have to fork over your taxes for that painter/decorator gig you do on the side – and the other is that no matter what league form Liverpool are in at any given moment, they will progress in the Champions League.
I don’t know. Don’t come here expecting to find rationale or some form of explanation. I simply do not understand it. But the club’s affinity with this competition has amalgamated into some form of bond that the universe just cannot break.
RB Leipzig v Liverpool
Tuesday, 8pm: BT Sport 1
Right now, if you’re a League One side in the FA Cup, you probably fancy your chances drawing Liverpool. They’re nothing short of abysmal. But they’re going to fly to Leipzig, hammer RB and come back to Anfield to prepare for their game at the weekend against Everton – and they’ll be thumped 4-1.
It’s not even going to be surprising and everyone will go home safe in the knowledge that this football club is just destined to win another European Cup. Classic. Here’s a Bet Builder you won’t have to declare tax on.
Liverpool to Win
What’s always important to note, and I mean this: the Premier League, despite West Ham’s current position and Man United not being able to beat West Brom, is at a very high level right now.
You can argue the individual merits of teams like Liverpool all you want, but in the grand scheme of things, the Reds are playing against tougher opposition week in, week out than Leipzig are. That’s not based in snobbery or a dislike for the Bundesliga – it’s merely an observation that Premier League sides have made their games more competitive this year.
That will play to the Reds’ advantage in Germany even if they’re in poor form.
Under 2.5 Goals
Klopp knows that in order to protect whatever bingo ball machine-drawn centre half pairing he comes up with this week, he’ll have to limit Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson going forward as much. Simply put, Liverpool don’t have the midfield legs outside of Jordan Henderson to cope with the cover.
So I believe Jurgen will play to keep the ball far more than he normally does, be patient and allow his difference-makers to, you know, make the difference.

Mo Salah to Score Anytime
The key for them, of course, is Mohamed Salah. At the weekend he once again reminded you that he is absolutely a better footballer than Sadio Mane and perhaps one of the best finishers in world football.
And the key to him is that he plays every single game; being the one piece of Liverpool’s XI that isn’t optional on a week-to-week basis.
Liverpool to Score in the First Half
I fancy the Reds to hit the front early in the game because of the embarrassment that Leicester caused them.
You can make the argument that Man City were just better than them and they were outplayed in a few games before that, but the Leicester result really stings because if they hadn’t made embarrassing mistakes, they may have claimed a point.
Now, there’s no sugar-coating.
