Paddy’s top soccer trader Jason Murphy has one again locked horns with our football ambassador Phil Thompson to take a look at one of the biggest games of the weekend as Manchester City host Tottenham. But, for once, the pair are in agreement over how the game in focus is going to pan out.

They fired up the trusty Zoom app to unearth the best value on offer at The Etihad with the help of PPTV. So, without further ado, here’s Jason and Thommo’s best bets for Saturday evening.

We’ve already paid out on City winning the league and they’ll probably be odds-on in every game between now and the end of the season. When Spurs beat City back in November they went top of the league and everything was looking rosy for them.

Since Jose Mourinho took over at Tottenham he’s taken seven points from three games against City but in those they’ve had 10 shots with seven on target and they’ve scored six goals. That cannot continue going into this weekend. City had 68 shots and only scored four!

In terms of a bet for this game, with City in such good form I tend to look towards City half time/full time. If you look at the 15 games they’ve won this season that has clicked 13 times.

But, I’m going to go away from that and the actual tip I’ll give at the bigger price is Man City (-1) on the handicap. If you look at the eight games they’ve won in 2021 in the league the winning margin in each of those games has been at least 2.5 goals.

In terms of a goal scorer, I’m not going to pick Raheem Sterling as he’ll drift out to the left which will leave space for Phil Foden, Riyad Mahrez and Ilkay Gundogan so I’m looking at those three. They’re all priced the same but I’d be siding with Mahrez or Gundogan because if City get a penalty they’ll be in line to take it. I’ll tip up Man City (-1) on the handicap and Gundogan to Score Anytime.

I think Spurs are going to have to look at this as getting through spells in the game. So, every 15 to 20 minutes, try not to let City score. I think, as Jason said, Man City half time/full time is a great bet.

Man City are just incredible. They’re better than Liverpool at breaking packed defences, particularly when they move the ball quickly. They’re a machine at the moment.

The only thing Spurs have is Harry Kane. It’s miraculous that he’s come back so quickly. I think their only hope is him and Heung-min Son. When they have that break away they make the most of it.

I’m going Man City to Win to Nil this weekend, I can’t see Tottenham scoring. As to who will score for City, I’m going to go against Jason because I’ve got Sterling written down here to score in a generous 2-0 win for Man City.

The reason I’m going for Sterling is, when you have this packed defence, I think they’ll work on the diagonal ball across the defence. I get what you’re saying about Gundogan, Jason, but I just fancy Sterling to Score Anytime.

Thommo’s Saturday double

I can’t split Leicester and Liverpool so I’m not going to go there. For my Saturday double I’m going to go for Man City to beat Tottenham and Crystal Palace to beat Burnley. I think Palace will be smarting after the performance and result at Newcastle and I think they’ll bounce back against Burnley.

That double clocks in at around 2/1 with Paddy Power.

Our best bets for Man City v Spurs

Man City (-1)
Ilkay Gundogan to Score Anytime

Man City to Win to Nil
Raheem Sterling to Score Anytime
