France’s Le Classique on Sunday night is lining up to be a belter with both teams desperate for the win. Marseille’s league form has taken a huge dip and they need to get back to winning ways, while for PSG they’ve at risk of falling behind the top two of Lille and Lyon in the league if they don’t come away with the victory.

We’ve poured over all the stats and form here to find the Three Best Bets. Let’s have a look at what we’ve found…

Marseille v PSG
Sunday, 8pm
BT Sport 1

Kylian Mbappe to Score Anytime and PSG to Win

The off-field shenanigans going on at Marseille are obviously overshadowing everything to do with this match and it’s going to have a huge impact here. Ex-manager Andre Villas-Boas didn’t want the club to sign midfielder Olivier Ntcham from Celtic but the club did anyway so he’s walked away from the job leaving the club in turmoil.

It might be for the best long term though as Marseille have only won one of their last nine matches in the league. Their home form had been decent enough though but Villas-Boas just couldn’t get the team to deliver in away matches.

PSG, meanwhile, have won four of their last five in the league but their away form is also patchy, picking up just eight points from a possible 15 over their last five away games. The shining light for PSG this season has been Kylian Mbappe who has 15 league goals this campaign and he loves a goal against Marseille.

He’s played them nine times in his career so far, scoring six. Marseille are a mess and PSG come with one of the top strikers in world football. We think he’ll add to his tally here.

Andre Villas-Boas

Both Teams to Score in the Second Half

Marseille are scoring 55.1% of their goals in the second half of play while for PSG the percentage stands at 62.3%. Over the last five meetings at the Velodrome, in all competitions, there have been 21 goals, 13 of which were scored in the second period. Both teams draw a good few of their first halves as well: Marseille have in five of their 10 home matches so far this season while PSG have drawn in seven of their 11 on the road.

We could well see a cagey start here and the stats would indicate we’ll see most of the action in the second half. Very good odds here for BTTS to land in the second period of play so we’re on it.

Mauricio Pochettino

Over 3.5 Goals

Over the five most recent league meetings played between the sides at the Velodrome, three have seen Over 3.5 goals landing. Four or more goals have also been seen in both of Marseille’s most recent league matches and in two out of PSG’s last three league matches.

While the teams are contrasting form-wise they’re both scoring plenty of goals of late and with so much to play for here for both sides we should see the floodgates open.
