From a purely neutral perspective, it was enjoyable watching Liverpool struggle for a period of time, because of the boring Premier League season their extended brilliance gave us last year. Now it seems like Man City are going to romp to a league title, and I regret everything immediately.
It’s true what they say – you don’t actually care who wins anything, once it’s hard-won. And for Brighton and Liverpool, finding wins lately has been exactly that.
Wednesday 8.15pm: Liverpool v Brighton BT Sport 1 and BT Sport Ultimate
But they’ve each won two games in their last three, making this clash more interesting than it ever had any right to be. Jurgen Klopp will certainly consider himself still in the title race and while Brighton are conceivably that bit better than Fulham, they’re still a few points light of securing safety, you feel.
For as much as we pointed out the top of the league concertinaed at this season’s beginning, if Brighton were to beat Liverpool, they would jump ahead of Burnley and into 15th. There’s sneakily a lot riding on this fixture, considering it might feel just like your average walkover on a Wednesday evening that you check on Livescore before you sleep. Not one bit of it – here’s a bet builder to hold your attention.

For all that Liverpool are finding the net again, they’re reliant on moments of brilliance more than anything else, and until Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson are back firing at the peak of their powers, the Reds will always struggle to build-up in central areas.
There’s been a sense of a revival from the former, and while Liverpool can certainly list excuses due to injuries, this Brighton test might be nasty for them. The Seagulls have three consecutive clean sheets in the league, but have only tallied two goals in their last four games.
This reverse fixture finished one-all back in November and I expect it to be every bit as cagey this time ‘round. I’m expecting Under 2.5 Goals here.
The worst thing to happen in the Premier League this season is not Leeds’ unpredictability nor is it VAR – it’s actually the idea that Sadio Mane being a better footballer than Mohamed Salah became somewhat common-held. It’s not true, it’s never been true and I’ll never accept it as such.
Salah has been the shining light for Liverpool in tough times and he’s about to hit a purple patch again, where everyone remembers that, in fact, he’s one of the best players on this planet. Mo Salah to Score Anytime is the way to go.
Unfortunately for Liverpool, they haven’t won a game to nil in any of their last seven fixtures in the Premier League. It’s concerning, but they’re now beginning to navigate their way through this deficiency by looking semi-capable in the final third again.
It doesn’t stop them looking shaky when they’re putting out a back four that resembles four garden gnomes; two of whom go off adventuring willy-nilly as soon as the ball clears halfway. Brighton will have plenty of opportunities to test Alisson here with Three or More Shots on Target.
I do wonder when a bigger club will roll the dice on him. His rise does seem quite quick and I can understand the hesitancy, but he’s been Brighton’s producer in moments of need time and time again.
