Paddy’s football ambassador Phil Thompson returns to scythe down Sunday’s big Premier League games with a good old-fashioned knee-high challenge. The Liverpool legend discusses his old side’s trip to West Ham and Brighton hosting Tottenham with the good folk at PPTV.
As a Liverpool fan I was wary about the Spurs game with them being able to jump above us and Liverpool looking to rediscover their scoring form. Well, we did it in spades. I thought it was a fantastic performance.
In terms of West Ham, we’ve spoken about some teams like Everton and Leicester making that charge again. There’s been so many but it’s West Ham’s turn now. I was listening to a phone in on one of the channels and the fans are still not happy with the owners.
But David Moyes has been absolutely incredible. They’ve won the last six games in all competitions and are unbeaten in four away games. They’ve lost just three of their last 17 Premier League fixtures so this is a West Ham in a good place.
Sunday 4.30pm: West Ham v Liverpool Sky Sports Main Event Sky Sports Premier League
I always think when you’ve won six in a row there’s a defeat around the corner. I think this boy Tomas Soucek has been a fantastic signing for them. He is the Marouane Fellaini of West Ham because he has that presence in both boxes.
He’s come up with some important goals for West Ham. I can see both teams scoring in this. Who Liverpool play at centre back, goodness only knows. That might be a problem.
Michail Antonio will be looking to play on the youngest centre back but I’m still going to go with Liverpool after rediscovering some form, I think they’ll have too much for West Ham but it’ll be tight.
THOMMO’S TIPS:I’ll go with Both Teams To Score and Liverpool to Win 2-1. I’m going for Mo Salah to Score Anytime. I thought he was unlucky against Spurs so he’ll be feeling a bit peeved at the moment and will want to get back on the scoresheet.
I can’t see Brighton bouncing back. They had a game they should have been winning the other night at home against Fulham. They just can’t seem to score enough goals.
They’re unbeaten in two but it’s not enough. Their home run, I think it’s a record home run, of 14 games without a win. It’s just not good enough for Brighton.
Sunday 7.15pm: Brighton v Tottenham Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Premier League
I think this is a Spurs side who will be looking to bounce back and that’s what Jose Mourinho will be telling them – we’ve got to get back on it. Harry Kane’s injury is a big problem but I think they can get their head around it now.
When he comes off at half time you have to make changes and I think Jose got it wrong against Liverpool. He should have gone with Lucas Moura straight away. If that happens you’ve got the pace of Maura and Son Heung-min and Steven Bergwijn.
