Crystal Palace v Wolves: Draw

Two of the most out-of-form teams in the league clash at Selhurst Park on Saturday afternoon and both will be desperate to secure a badly needed three points. Wolves are now without a league win since their 2-1 win over Chelsea on 15 December – a run stretching over seven games.

Meanwhile, Wolves’ last win on the road came at the Emirates Stadium at the end of November and they have picked up just two points from their last five games away from Molineux. They desperately need a win to boost morale and arrest their precipitous slide down the Premier League table, in what has comfortably been their worst campaign since they were promoted in 2018.

Palace, on the other hand, have won just one of their last nine league games and also lost to Saturday’s opponents in the third round of the FA Cup at the beginning of the month. The two sides boast identical records in the league this season – winning six, drawing five, and losing nine – and are separated in the table by just four goals.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men comfortably prevailed in the reverse fixture at Molineux at the end of October, but a lot has changed since then and they could be thwarted by their inability to win a league game. All signs point to a stalemate between two teams who have been as bad as each other in recent weeks.

West Brom v Fulham: Fulham to win

It is genuinely staggering how bad West Brom are defensively considering Sam Allardyce has now been in charge of the club for a month. Their five-goal humiliation at home to Man City marked the fourth time this season that they have conceded five in a game and the ninth time this season that they conceded three goals or more.

They have shipped an embarrassing 14 goals in their last three league outings at the Hawthorns and have conceded at least 12 more than any other side in the league. Continue at this rate and they will surpass Swindon’s ignominious 100-goal season in 1993/93 when the season was 42 games long.

Despite this wretched defensive record, The Baggies are just two points off Fulham ahead of Saturday’s six-pointer and have the opportunity to leapfrog them in the table. However, The Cottagers have been playing much better than West Brom in recent weeks and can count themselves desperately unlucky not to have picked up more points.

Scott Parker’s men are winless in their last nine games, but they have only lost two of their last eight despite playing some of the best in the league. They are defensively sound and have only conceded more than one on two occasions in their last 10 games – an almost complete contrast to West Brom. Scoring goals has been Fulham’s downfall, but even they should find some joy against this porous Baggies defence.
