Football Tips: Our 3 best bets for Tuchel’s first Chelsea game v Wolves

Our tipster Paddy Murphy has dug out the three best bets for Wolves' trip to Chelsea at 6pm on Wednesday.

Sitting in ninth on 29 points after 19 matches hasn’t been good enough for the Chelsea hierarchy and former golden boy Frank Lampard has been dismissed from his role as manager. Former PSG and Borussia Dortmund manager Thomas Tuchel is replacing him at Stamford Bridge, and Wolves will be licking their lips here knowing that Chelsea are a team who can be kicked while they’re down. Let’s have a look at the three best bets for this Premier League clash.

Both Teams to Score

We’ve an early kickoff here so don’t miss out. Chelsea’s overall form had been improving of late, they’d won three of their last five matches but their Premier League form has seen them winning just two of their last eight.

At Stamford Bridge they’ve not been too bad in fairness, they’ve only lost two of their last 15 home matches, winning 10 and drawing four. Lampard enjoyed a decent win record at Chelsea, 52.4%, it was just 42.1% at Derby County. Tuchel enjoyed 62.96% and 74.80% at Dortmund and PSG, but he had far more talent at his disposal at those clubs. It’s very hard to call whether he’ll be a success at Chelsea or not.

Wednesday 6pm: Chelsea v Wolves
BT Sport 1 and BT Sport Ultimate

Wolves’ Premier League form is muck, they’ve won just two of their last 10 in the league and away from home they’ve won just one of their last five. But two of those were against top four opposition.

Their away scoring record is good at 1.0 goals per match but they’re conceding 1.78 per away match. Chelsea have been averaging 2.11 at home in the PL and are conceding 1.22. Both Teams to Score is my first pick.

Tammy Abraham to Score Anytime

While the majority of football fans are of the mind that Lampard’s sacking is a tad harsh, one criticism that can be levelled upon him is that he wasn’t ruthless enough with his players.

Out of form players were kept in the team but the other side of the coin is that young players need to learn and get experience. Tammy Abraham has had a rough season with injuries but against Luton Town in the FA Cup over the weekend he scored a hat trick to put Chelsea through to the next round.

Abraham has six in nine Premier League starts this season and a good performance here will put him in the new manager’s good books from the start. He’s been a thorn in Wolves’ side before too, over five previous matches against them he’s scored six times. Our money is on Abraham to Score Anytime here and continue that fine form against Wolves.

Chelsea Under 0.5 First Half Goals

Neither team has a great record of goals in the first period of play. Chelsea have only been winning at halftime in 44% of their home PL matches, Wolves have only done so in 33% of their away matches.

The home side have averaged under a goal per first half at home, at 0.78 goals. Wolves share the same stat on their travels and both teams are conceding well under a goal per first half as well.

We’re getting very good value odds here, too good to refuse and while the onus will be on Chelsea to attack here, the stats show that both teams start slowly and that we’re unlikely to see a first half goal, therefore Chelsea Under 0.5 First Half Goals is a nice play.
