Paddy’s football ambassador and all round good egg Phil Thompson is on a one-man mission to unite north London as his New Year’s wish.
The Liverpool and England great has selected both Arsenal and Tottenham in his first double of 2021 and here he is to explain why…
Thommo’s Premier League double
Jose’s gone Mr Grumpy again, hasn’t he? Calling their last game off three hours before kick off against Fulham, that will annoy him. I think he’ll have Tottenham wound up and they’ll have had a little bit of a rest and that will be a good thing.
They’re going to need it against Leeds. My goodness, they’re the great entertainers, aren’t they? The 5-0 against West Brom was the biggest away win in I don’t know how long.
The last four games they’ve been involved in there’s been 21 goals! As you can see, this has got the makings of a fantastic match. But, Leeds are venerable from set plays so I think Spurs will have been working on these knowing they can hurt them that way.
They went 11 unbeaten before not winning in their last four games, Spurs. They’ve lost two of the last four. It’s not going well, I think they need to react and I think they will with a Tottenham Win.
Arsenal let me down last weekend against Chelsea – what happened? My goodness. They looked quite solid in defence, they looked good in attack but it was a big win for them. Then, in the Brighton game, that also stung me because I thought Brighton would win that game.
Mikel Arteta would have been absolutely delighted with the clean sheet in the last game. Back-to-back wins will give them a lift and a little bit of belief, Arsenal.
West Brom need to get back to basics again. They would have been congratulating each other for a couple of days after the Liverpool draw and they just didn’t perform.
Against Liverpool, West Brom were always going to remain defensive when going behind but against Leeds it’s a little bit different isn’t it? They’re not Liverpool and I think if Sam Allardyce got his game plan right against Liverpool he didn’t get it right against Leeds and I think they will pay the price again here with an Arsenal Win.
THOMMO’S TIPS: I’m going for a north London double on Saturday with Spurs and Arsenal both to win.
Thommo’s Saturday double
Spurs to beat Leeds
Arsenal to beat West Brom
These two selections in a double will give you odds of around 2/1 with Paddy Power.
