Our punter may have left it late, but one lucky bettor from St Leonards-On-Sea managed to turn £2 into £4,331 on Boxing Day via a 2,165/1 punt to deliver themselves the perfect late Christmas present. A fine five-fold of Result and Both Teams To Score bets came in thanks to a 94th-minute winner from an unlikely source in a hard-fought Yorkshire derby in the Championship.
A mixture of Scottish and EFL games got the job done – with three of the five selections landing courtesy of single-goal margins. In terms of the ‘comfortable’ results it was in the bag nice an early as Raith beat Alloa with Both Teams To Score.
Raith, the visitors, strolled into a two goal lead before Alloa got on the scoresheet in the 75th minute and things got a bit wild. Raith went 3-1 up before Alloa brought it back to 3-2 courtesy of a Liam Buchanan’s second of the game, an 89th-minute penalty. But Rovers were not to be denied and Ethan Ross fired two in stoppage time to make a tight game look like an emphatic win.
The other comfortable-looking result for our bettor also came in the Scottish Championship where Dundee to Win and Both Teams To Score landed thanks to Osman Sow’s hattrick in a 3-1 win for the away side. Connor Shields’ 84th minute consolation strike for Queen Of The South ensured our punter’s five fold kept rolling on.
In the Scottish top flight Aberdeen to Win v St Johnstone with Both Teams To Score came off via a 2-1 result for the selection. Goals from Ash Taylor and Sam Cosgrove turned round a 1-0 deficit after Liam Gordon had put St Johnstone ahead in the first half. The win for Aberdeen put Derek McInnes’ men up to third and moved our bettor one leg closer to over £4k.
The remaining two legs of the fivefold came from England and The Championship and both were tight affairs that could have gone either way. Brentford to Win and Both Teams To Score at Cardiff had plenty of action – and a nervous 15 minute wait to see if The Bees could hold on.
Sergi Canos fired a hat trick for the London outfit in South Wales, but it was Cardiff who scored last to make it 3-2 in the 76th minute. However, Brentford held on and there were no more goals, meaning everything hinged on the events at Oakwell.
Barnsley hosted Huddersfield Town in a tight affair that went right to the final seconds. Both sides were on target early in the first half to ensure the Both Teams To Score element of the final leg landed, but there was a 73-minute wait to get the Barnsley Win in the bag.
Rarmani Edmonds-Green put Huddersfield in front inside the first quarter of an hour and Michal Helik levelled up on 21 minutes. Huddersfield keeper Ryan Schofield made a couple of smart saves to keep Barnsley – and our bettor – at bay before Helik, a centre back, rose in the 94th minute to win it for The Tykes via an effort that went in off the post.
Talk about leaving it late. But, as the old saying goes, they all count. Our punter is over £4,000 better off thanks to some super smart predictions, lots of goals and a last-minute winner. Football, bloody hell.
