Paddy’s Hall Of Fame: Posh punter turns £1 into £16k thanks to Super Sunday

Not bad for a couple hours' work in front of the telly, this.

One pleased punter from Peterborough pocketed some serious pre-Christmas cash with a mega-value double on Sunday afternoon thanks to a barn burner at Old Trafford, Anwar El Ghazi’s fine form and Jake Livermore’s lunge. Our bettor can certainly scratch ‘crystal ball’ off their Christmas wish list to Santa after this 16,016/1 punt came in.

Manchester United and Leeds renewed their old rivalry in Sunday’s main attraction and it didn’t disappoint with eight goals, 26 attempts and, crucially for our bettor, a whopping 24 corners. Football fans hoped this game would be a frantic, end-to-end rollercoaster and that’s exactly what happened. Death to sensible football!

To kick off their Christmas miracle, our shrewd punter anticipated a free-for-all at Old Trafford and selected Each Team To Have 4+ Corners in Each Half at a monster 175/1 from the #WhatoddsPaddy markets. When that bet landed it was all eyes on The Hawthorns to see if the second half of the double, a 90/1 #Whatoddspaddy selection, would come off.

Things couldn’t have gone better for our bettor as their Anwar El Ghazi to Score 2+ Goals & Jake Livermore to be Carded hunch got off to a flyer with the Dutchman netting the opening goal on five minutes. Jack Grealish’s dancing feet emphatically landed the next part of the bet just over 30 minutes later as he took it round Livermore on the touchline, prompting a big lunge from the former England midfielder.

Referee Martin Atkinson brandished the yellow card to Livermore for the high challenge, but he soon nipped off to the VAR booth to make doubly sure for our wagerer and turn that yellow into a red which glistened under the floodlights in exactly the same hue which was omitting from Big Sam’s face as he demolished another block of chewing gum. Now, could El Ghazi net again?

He was trying from everywhere, often at the expense of his better-placed team-mates, but it was Bertrand Traoré who finally popped up in the 84th minute to finish the game off. However, there was a further sting in the tail with Grealish in the thick of it again. He darted forward and was felled just inside the box to give El Ghazi a gold-plated chance to land this 16,016/1 double. And he duly delivered, striking straight down the middle to wrap up this epic bet in the 88th minute.

Incredible foresight from our Peterborough-based bettor who kicks off this festive week in superb style. It’s going to be some trip to the petrol station on Xmas Eve for our punter. Why not treat your loved ones to TWO Maoam share packs each? Put back the reduced-to-clear flowers, mum can have the full-priced ones this year. You could even leave the price tag on just to show off a bit.

However you spend the cash enjoy it because you’ve earned it with a 90/1 and 175/1 double landing at 16,016/1. Come on down and take your seat in Paddy’s Punting Hall Of Fame.
