West Ham (+1)

Chelsea are in desperate need of three points against West Ham on Monday night following disappointing defeats to Wolves and Everton over the past seven days. The Blues have slipped from potential title challengers to outsiders for the Champions League places in the blink of an eye and need to get back on the horse as quickly as possible.

They will find the going tough against a plucky West Ham outfit, however. David Moyes seems to have come up with a winning formula for the Hammers’ away games, with his side taking 10 points from their last 15 on the road despite facing a tricky fixture list.

West Ham pushed league leaders Liverpool all the way at Anfield just a few weeks ago and may have gotten a result were it not for a controversial penalty, while they have beaten Sheffield United and Leeds in their most recent away fixtures.

Moyes will make his side difficult to beat at Stamford Bridge against a Chelsea side that doesn’t really look fluid under Frank Lampard. With Hakim Ziyech still an injury doubt ahead of Monday’s game, Chelsea could really miss a spark up front.

Both teams to score

Lampard has clearly made an effort to improve Chelsea’s defence after a downright shambolic start to the season that saw them concede three times against both Southampton and West Brom, but there are still gaping holes in the Blues’ defence. Wolves and Everton both exploited these gaps to claim three points, while Leeds and Sheffield United have also capitalised on poor Chelsea defending to score at Stamford Bridge in recent weeks.

West Ham will hope to emulate the two Yorkshire clubs and have a great chance of doing so based off their goalscoring record away from home. The Hammers have scored in each of their six away league games this season, and each of their last nine league games in a run stretching back to July.

They are more than capable of breaching the Chelsea defence, but may struggle to keep their London rivals out at the other end having conceded 16 goals in 13 league games themselves.

Over 10.5 corners

West Ham and Chelsea boast almost identical records in terms of corner kicks over the last six league games. David Moyes’s side have won 34 corners across their last six games, an average of just over 5.5 corners per game.

Chelsea, on the other hand, have won 33 corners over their last six league games, an average of exactly 5.5 corners per game. Coupled together the two averages just about add up to more than 10.5 corners and it could be very tight on Monday.

However, Chelsea will probably expect to win more corners than their average over their last six games given that West Ham are likely to drop deep and invite pressure on during some parts of Monday’s game, increasing the likelihood of more home corners.

OlivierGiroudDec20

Olivier Giroud to score anytime

It’s official; Chelsea are now far too reliant on a 34-year-old striker for a side that has spent in excess of £100 million on attacking players over the summer. Giroud has been Chelsea’s most prolific player over the past four weeks, outshining marquee summer signing Timo Werner by a long shot.

The 34-year-old has scored twice in his last four league games, which doesn’t sound all that impressive until you consider the fact that Chelsea have only scored four goals in that timeframe. He gave Chelsea the lead at Molineux midweek and also drew them level against Leeds at Stamford Bridge earlier in the month.

That’s not to mention the crucial Champions League goal he scored in Rennes or the phenomenal four-goal haul in Sevilla. Giroud is Chelsea’s deadliest marksman at the moment, and the best bet to find the back of the net on Monday.

Chelsea v West Ham tips summary:

West Ham (+1)
Both teams to score
Over 10.5 corners
Olivier Giroud to score anytime
