Liverpool’s run of injury misfortune shows no sign of abating with Joel Matip and Diogo Jota the latest casualties. Jordan Henderson deputised at centre-half against Fulham, and Jurgen Klopp faces a decision to make between persevering with an extremely makeshift pairing of Henderson and Fabinho or chancing one of the inexperienced pair of Rhys Williams or Nathaniel Phillips against their title rivals.
Regardless of which way Klopp goes, this will be an extremely vulnerable Liverpool defensive partnership facing the most devastating strike duo in the top flight. Son Heung-min and Harry Kane have combined for 19 Premier League goals in 12 games, a goal tally that only eight teams have bettered.
Kane leads the league in assists in 10, leaving the former king Kevin De Bruyne trailing in his wake. Kane’s transformation in playing style has been thrilling to watch with the England striker making far greater use of his elite passing ability. In previous seasons, when Kane received the ball 30 yards from goal, everyone in the stadium knew what would happen.

Kane would make space for a shot and try to let fly. Kane’s off the ball movement was also that of a player only concerned with his personal goal tally, rarely involving himself in the build-up play and just heading for the penalty box. This season Kane has been the total package of centre-forward play with the prolific goal tally of a number 9 and the creative brilliance of a number 10. This new approach from Kane has also got the most out the superbly consistent and likeable Son.
It will be intriguing to see how Liverpool approach the game given how much of their attack is based around the overlapping and quality of their full-backs in Andy Robertson and Trent-Alexander Arnold, while knowing that the space they leave is exactly what Son is waiting for on the counter-attack. I would suspect we might see Robertson sit back more than usual to provide cover for Liverpool’s centre-backs. Alexander-Arnold doesn’t have Robertson’s defensive intensity and we saw that again exposed on Sunday by Fulham’s Ademola Lookman.
Double Chance: Tottenham and Draw
Coming off one of Liverpool’s worst performances in a long time against Fulham and playing with a makeshift defence, the price on Liverpool does not appeal and my first bet for this game will be Tottenham and Draw Double Chance.
Spurs should give Liverpool plenty of problems on the counter-attack and have the defensive organisation to cope with Liverpool’s potent front three.
Harry Kane to score anytime
It’s not often you’re able to get such a decent price on Harry Kane to score anytime and its odds I’m happy to here with Kane playing the best football of his illustrious career.
Giovani Lo Celso to be carded
For my last bet I’ll chance Giovani Lo Celso to be carded at 11/4. The Argentine midfielder is a very skilful player but more importantly for this bet, a very reckless tackler and in a game where Tottenham will have to do plenty of defending, we should get a few opportunities for this bet to click.
