Tuesday seems a clash between two teams who desperately need a win. Millwall are winless in their last eight and have fallen sharply down the Championship table over the last month and a half.
The play-offs are now a distant daydream for Gary Rowett’s side after being a realistic and attainable prospect just six weeks ago. There is obviously plenty of time to turn that around, but they will need to start picking up wins as quickly as possible.
QPR, meanwhile, have also endured a shocking run of form of late – losing their last three games on the spin and picking up just four points from their last 18. The Rs have endured a particularly difficult time on their travels this season, picking up just five points on the road to date.
They’ve also lost each of their last three games away from Loftus Road and their only away victory of the season so far came against Derby County, who were actively giving points away at the time. Their poor form could continue on Tuesday at the Den, while Millwall could claim a vital victory in front of their fans.
In contrast, Tuesday’s other live game sees two sides in excellent form clash in the Potteries. Stoke have picked up seven points from the last nine in a run that has propelled them into the play-off places, while Cardiff have won their last three games as they begin to turn their slow start to the season around.
Neither side has conceded a goal in their last three games. In terms of recent form, it has been the Bluebirds who have been far more impressive. They have scored eight goals in those three wins, which all came against teams who were in the top half of the table at the time.
Their most recent win came at promotion-chasing Watford, who suffered just their third defeat of the season – and their first defeat at home. Stoke, on the other hand, have recorded two 1-0 wins against relegation-threatened Wycombe and an out-of-form Middlesbrough, while they were held to a scoreless draw by struggling Sheffield Wednesday.
It just feels like Cardiff are currently enjoying a much better run of form and could record a pivotal win on Tuesday night.
