Phil Thompson's not messing about with his Sunday best.

Thommo is keeping things simple with this 2/1 double ahead of Sunday’s headline Premier League clashes. Tottenham host Arsenal in the first North London derby of the season before champions Liverpool welcome Wolves to Anfield in the late kick-off.

4.30pm: Tottenham v Arsenal

Tottenham are favourites to beat Arsenal, and I do fancy them. Harry Kane has been absolutely bang on it in the North London derby. He’s scored 10 goals in the last 11, although five of them have been penalties, but he will be a big miss if he doesn’t start. They’re unbeaten in nine games, have the best defence in the league, they’re the next-best leading goalscorers with 21 this season – I do fancy Spurs.

What do we make of Arsenal? 10 goals in 10 games and one point from their last three Premier League games. What has happened to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang since he signed his new contract? Has he gone into his comfort zone? Since they won their opening two games, they’ve lost five out of eight which is quite astonishing. Mikel Arteta is maybe just around the corner from a little bit of pressure and I think this is a massive game for him.

Tottenham are the new Leicester! I shouldn’t say that about Spurs – the fans will be going mad at me – “We’re bigger than Leicester!” But for Spurs to come to where they are at the moment, with even Jose Mourinho looking happy, they could push for the Premier League title.

With the squad that they’ve got, they should at least be pushing to challenge for the title and that’s what all Spurs fans want. I still don’t think they will actually win it – I still think it will be between Liverpool and Manchester City. It is going to be an unprecedented season and it will chop and change throughout, but I think the cream will rise to the top.

THOMMO’S TIPS: But, in this game, I don’t see Spurs losing this, with or without Harry Kane. I’m going for a 3-1 Spurs Win. I would go with a nice little bet on Son Heung-min to score 2 Goals or More.

7.15pm: Liverpool v Wolves

It was a big Champions League win for Liverpool in midweek, because they certainly didn’t want to go three games without a win in all competitions. The Brighton game was one of those where we did enough to win the game but with the chances they had, losing would have been unfair on them.

This is a difficult time for Liverpool, particularly with injuries to the back four and Alisson. It was an Irish player, a Cork boy – Caoimhin Kelleher – who started against Ajax and how composed was he?! How well did he play?!

Some of the saves that he made… Jurgen Klopp said he had him in there because he was better with his feet than Adrian, but he was absolutely terrific. It was still a shock to get the win though because Alisson is missing, Joe Gomez is missing, Trent Alexander-Arnold is missing, Virgil van Dijk is missing and it looks like we will now be without Andrew Robertson.

Klopp has a lot to ponder, but this Liverpool team are using these injuries as motivation. They’ve scored in every Premier League game so far and I think they will do so again against Wolves. They are the league’s top scorers and, barring that game against Villa the goals against would look quite good too.

But Wolves are not a bad outfit. They’re sitting in seventh at the moment and have lost only one of their last seven Premier League games. They’ve won three of their last five on the road, so this is tight. With Liverpool’s record – 64 home league games without defeat – you’ve got to fancy Liverpool to win this.

THOMMO’S TIP: It’s been a while since the three amigos scored. This is a wild bet, but lets go for Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah to score. They haven’t done it for a while, so I think this is the time for them to come good.

These three selections in a treble will give you odds of around 9/1.
