Leeds and Everton should absolutely be the most relentless nonsense we’ve ever witnessed in the Premier League if their respective games are anything to go by – and let me tell you – I am here for it. Marcelo Bielsa versus Carlo Ancelotti is just a mouthwatering Premier League clash on the touchline coming your way at 17:30 on Saturday evening and you can watch it on Sky Sports Main Event.
Everton’s title challenge has been dismissed and laughed off in many circles already, despite the fact they’re four points off top with a pace being set by the same club who managed to let Leicester City win a Premier League (Tottenham). While I’m not fully on board with The Toffees being top-level challengers just yet, they’re plenty good enough to rattle this Leeds unit. The hipsters’ choice have ultimately cooled down and have been disregarded by those who just ‘know football better than you do’.
My favourite element of this is that both of these teams have won just once in their last five, and they genuinely need three points to stay on track with their ambitions. This is going to be all-out war, so buckle up. Here’s your three best bets.
I understand Patrick (Paddy until he decides he doesn’t want to play for Ireland, I might add) Bamford has been your fantasy football darling this year, but the fact he’s a substandard Premier League striker (again, unless he texts Stephen Kenny back) does not escape me. It shouldn’t escape you either.
And in these clashes where chances will always fall to the central strikers, I fancy Dominic Calvert-Lewin to bag more than him. That’s genuinely what this boils down to. There’s absolutely no value in backing Everton to win this game, because who knows when they are likely to keep a clean sheet at this rate.
Honestly, I’d feel confident in backing over 4.5 goals – so, if you’d prefer the bigger price, take it – but, I can very easily make a case for the value in over 3.5 here. This is especially because Everton, by themselves, are averaging three goals a game at home. Even if they fell short of that, Leeds are scoring twice away from home is their season average.
What a wonderful world we live in, where managers have absolutely no idea how to coach teams to defend, eh? The joys of smaller clubs hiring coaches with manic dispositions.
He reminds me a bit of Frank Lampard. Not that he’s arrogant, or claiming everyone has break football’s mythical “code”. Just his movement into the box and finding the target almost every time he shoots from inside 16 yards. Don’t be surprised to see the Pole pop up and hit the back of the net in this one.
