Crewe v Peterborough: Peterborough to Win

Peterborough keep on rolling on and we’re again surprised to find them at a very backable price this weekend. Let’s make the most of it while it lasts. Darren Ferguson’s men are top of League One following a stunning run of seven wins in their last eight league fixtures.

Just one draw has ruined that perfect sequence, but that result spurred them on to 5-1 and 2-0 victories in the following two games. They take on a Crewe side who are surely lambs to the slaughter on Saturday. The Railwaymen welcome The Posh to Gresty Road with a record showing just one win and four losses from their last five.

Crewe’s home record is fairly respectable for a team down in 18th place, but the three games in which they’ve got some kind of result were against Wigan (24th), MK Dons (19th) and Blackpool (12th). It’s hardly a run to give us major concerns when our selection has four wins and two losses on the road. Those two defeats came in their first two away games and we’re expecting Peterborough to Win and extend their away perfect streak on the road to five games.

Cambridge v Barrow: Cambridge to Win

Second-placed Cambridge host League Two new-boys Barrow on Saturday knowing that a win would move them top as Newport aren’t in action this weekend. Cambridge have won seven, drawn two and lost two so far this term, giving them a total of 23 points from 11 games.

Barrow have had a decent-enough start to life back in the Football League after their promotion from the National League last season. They are in 18th with 11 points from 11 games which have seen them record two wins, five draws and four defeats.

The price on Cambridge to Win here is, at the time of writing, hard to believe. They’re unbeaten at home with four wins and two draws while Barrow have won one and lost four on the road this season. United should be much shorter and this selection is another no brainer to add to our acca-insured 4-fold for this weekend’s EFL action.

Forest Green v Mansfield: Forest Green to Win

Mansfield are slowly improving, but Nigel Clough’s new side face a tough task this weekend as they travel south to face 3rd-placed Forest Green who are very, very good at home. Mansfield’s problem has been turning draws into wins and they’ve racked up a remarkable seven draws from their 11 leagues games so far this season, with defeat coming in their other four.

Now, on that basis, backing the draw is very tempting in this fixture, but Forest Green have secured three home wins on the bounce and they haven’t drawn since a run of three in a row in the opening weeks of the season. Since then they’ve won five and lost two, both away from home.

This is a tricky one, but we’re expecting FGR to go about things in their usual manner and go for the win to maintain their early-season promotion push. Mansfield, down in 22nd, have made an incredibly shrewd appointment in Clough, but they’re yet to win this season and while they’ll set out for a draw, we’re backing the in-form Forest Green to be more adventurous and get the win at a price that, again, is longer than it should be.

Oldham v Scunthorpe: Oldham to Win

Scunthorpe come into this one on both a terrible run of form and off the back of a three-game layoff after Covid 19 swept through their playing squad and backroom staff. They’re second bottom with four points from eight games. They’ve lost all four they’ve played on the road while winning one, drawing one and losing two at home.

The Iron were furious they were being forced to continue playing with a massively-reduced playing staff and they will be thankful for the chance to rest, regroup and recover ahead of that will be an even busier remainder of the season that it already was before their enforced break.

However, like with Leyton Orient earlier this season, we’ve seen that teams who are forced to postpone games because of Covid take time to get up and running again when coming up against opponents who are match fit and in rhythm. Harry Kewell’s Oldham are no great shakes, they’re 19th with three wins, two draws and six losses from their 11 games, but off the back of three successive wins in various competitions over the last two weeks, they really should be beating an out of form and out-of-match-practice Scunthorpe on Saturday.
